What is it with TV people bringing back the classics for money grabbing reason. This show a complete lack of original ideas or version and show that many companies have lost there way of operating. As there have to rely on bring back classics or Big brother type show,

1st we had Thunderbird brought back for adverts:

DRENCH Spring Water http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LQ4RflLjjKw&feature=related

Specsavers:

we also have Be witched getting remade , now we have knightrider come back, where will it stop, I all for having one offs but it seem there running out of ideas

where will this end, there are just remaking programmers for the sake of hopefully getting a hit ( some more mileage out of a hit show)

This evidently is not the time to mention the return of cult series The Prisoner in the coming months...

I don't think they're doing that one now, last I read it was going to be a co-production between Granada and Sky One, but it's never really got off the ground.

No, it's definately on, Sky pulled out of the production, and ITV stepped in to rescue it.

Interesting programme. From what I've seen of the prisoner it did look ahead of its time, and the fact that the set is still there to this day is a blessing. Though whether they will use that is a different matter.

Quickly going back to the original post, I think the Brain's advert is probably the best on television at the moment, if not this year! The website is going to release a behind the scenes video in the next week, probably showing a dozen people controling it at one point... I'm also thinking CGI but my childhood doesn't want that kind of bubble bursting! Laughing

Also, helping out in a local college I was amazed at how many people/students were unawares of the Brains connection with the tagline at the end... in other words none of them had ever seen Thunderbirds, which is quite a sad thought for todays Teletubbies generation!

The advert with Brains is superb & a nice change to the usual bilge which is insurance/loans ads. The two worst ones at the mo are the Sheila's Wheels ads (still) & that Slim Fast one with that really irritating song.

As for bringing back back old shows, the biggest crim so far is attempting to bring back Minder, with Shane Richie as Arthur Dailey Shocked Evil or Very Mad

A good remake can be as successful as the original programme. Look at Doctor Who. Whether it'll continue to be as successful after Russell T Davies steps down remains to be seen.

Technically it was only the Brains character, not the full ensemble suite of six Thunderbird rockets and FAB1.

Actually, the "big pink Sheliamobile" on the Sheila's Wheels adverts looks rather uncannily similar to what Lady Penelope was driven round in, only in a more shocking shade of pink.

Remakes have been in fashion for the last decade or so. Where have you been?
Crossroads was remade (and subsequently dropped). Bullseye was remade. Fort Boyard was remade. Basil Brush was remade. Rumours persist for years that Krypton Factor is to be remade. Now Gladiators has been remade with a water tank. ITV remade various hits for "ITV at 50" with varying degrees of loyalty. Family Fortunes has been remade (and subsequently ruined in the process). Surprising really that Who's Line Is It Anyway? hasn't been remade yet for a UK audience.

Dan Patterson is all hyped up on "Mock The Week" at the moment with the success that is enjoying, I would bet a lot of money that it will return with time.
