Firstly, this is not a post to insight any form racism. It's a genuine question around representation of all UK communities. If my use of language is wrong I apologise, my point is there are still unrepresented communities on UK television

How do the Far East Community feel about the representation of their community on UK tv? We see many black, Indian and to lesser extent Arabic broadcasters but hardly any Chinese /Japanese /Thai etc and this population forms a significant number of the UK. So why don't we see these people on TV?

How many people from countries around the world, have been made welcome and made the UK their home?
Pretty much everyone that the UN recognise.

But does that mean they all should have some on screen representation at some point in the week on one of the PSB channels? No.

And anyway, those nationals are probably watching (legal or otherwise) their own channels from back 'home' via satellite/internet outputs, so the lack of a Samoan on The One Show every now and then won't bother them in the slightest.

And to flip the coin. How many other countries with a UK, or white caucasian immigration population feature those in their national originated broadcasts?
About the same as over here, when all balanced out, I would guess.

I wonder if it's frown upon in certain cultures to choose television, film, performing arts as a career?

Statistics must surely play a part. Chinese people make up a much smaller part of our population than Pakistani or Indian people, for instance. In the USA, where the opposite is true, there is far more Chinese representation in the mainstream media.

I dare say there isn't a culture as such that would frown upon it being a career as such, after all work is work. Maybe in the early days of TV in a particular area it could have been seen as something with no future prospects, but these days the only exception would probably be if you find a tribe in a rainforest somewhere who the entire performing arts thing will have completely passed them by.

I've seen in takeaways televisions tuned to stations such as GEO (which I believe is a Pakistani-based channel). Plus there are a phalanx of channels available on both Satellite and IPTV so in terms of representation there is I believe more than enough.
