How about a channel to incorporate pogrammes from UKTV Documentary, History and People. This would be better for Freeview veiwers instead of UKTV History. It could be called UKTV Reference.
It could be like UKTV Bright Ideas (UKTV Food ans Style programming). This would give Freeview viewers a wider range of programming.
Would other Freeview viewers prefer a channel like this to UKTV History?
Yeah I would. It would be better if uktv opened it up a bit and made it more appealing to the masses. I still dearly miss BBC Knowledge (with the special and unique DTT text service). It used to be the only free-to-air 24 hour documentary channel in the UK so god knows why they got rid of it.
Space open I reckon for uktv to do some damage. I'd definately watch it.
I agree with Corin, I refuse to give up UK History as it is an EXCELLENT channel.
Yes I agree. An excellent channel indeed is that UKTV Second World War History! Seriously though, even with Top Up TV I wouldn't want to lose UKTV History. I love documentaries and sadly Discovery has gone downhill since I last had it with ITV Digital. So UKTV History Forever!
As much as I too love UKTV History, I do think that there should be a UKTV+ channel (or similar), that shows programmes from all of the UKTV channels apart from the lifestyle/DIY programmes currently catered for by BrightIdeas.
If it showed a mixture of UKTV History/Documentary/People/Gold/G2 programming (on a mixed schedule) it would be a great channel.
I doubt you will as UKTV Gold, UKTV Style, and UKTV Food are available as part of TopUP TV. Still it would be nice if they did this or how about UKTV FreeView.

Nooo!!! We already have enough of this home makeover type crap on the terrestrial, and I'm sure there is enough to satisfy your desire for seeing Handy Andy, Carol Smily, Nick Knowles et al on UKBI.

I completely agree with you but I think what he (or indeed, she) means is that the suggested channel would show a selection of programmes from UKTV History, People and Documentary, just as UKTV BrightIdeas shows a selection of programming from UKTV Style and Food.
UK History is one of the best channels on Freeview in my opinion, but I do think they should include more general documentaries.
Of course they already have UK Documentary on Sky now.
History isn't really my thing, but I have watched a couple of programmes on UK History and I have enjoyed them. They would be mad to get rid of it on Freeview, when I told my dad that Freeview had UK History he was rather delighted as he was thinking of getting a Freeview box for another room in the house. They would be mad to get rid of it from Freeview, plus I think ratings wise it does pretty well. It also won Digital Channel of the Year in 2003, so thats saying something.
I just thought it was a shame that it had to replace Play UK.
