Remind me:Why does BBC1 have all their sub regions on Sky...

What I found particularly strange was that ITV1removed the availability of alternative regions for overlap areas.

Living about 10 miles north of Leeds, but just into North Yorkshire, I originally got Yorkshire on 103 and Tyne Tees as an alternative on 963. When they revised their regional mapping about 18 months ago (IIRC), we were switched to Tyne Tees on 103, and no alternative at all.

Couple of reasons why I thought this might have happened.

1. ITV would have to pay Sky less if they had a simpler regional mapping ?
2. Advertisers weren't that happy about regional variations?
3. When ITV introduced Audio Description, but just on ITV1 London, they decided to re-use an existing EPG slot for this rather than pay more for an extra position?

I suppose that's the most likely possible reason.

I'm friends with the boss of a big advertising agency in Leeds who's very annoyed about the Harrogate and York area switching from Yorkshire to Tyne Tees on Sky. Many advertisers in Leeds want to be able to reach this highly lucrative local market by taking out a package on YTV. Since the switch to TTTV, for some it's not really worth their while now advertising on Yorkshire.

In terms of advertising, York and Harrogate are of little use to the Tyne Tees region, as almost everyone in the area looks towards Leeds as a regional centre for shopping and services rather than Teesside.

I know this is just one example, but if their priority was to make advertisers happier, they've not thought it through very well.

Some areas had two alternative regions - on 963 and 964... so they already had two EPG slots available.
