As the thread states, why does BBC1 have all their regions in the upper 900s on SKY but ITV doesn't. I know you can access these ITV regional stations via the add channel facility but just trying to think why the BBC had this place.

Wasn't there some deal a couple of years ago with the BBC and SKY kicking up a fuss about BBC1 getting channel "101"

Anyway, I'm sure you lot will know Very Happy

Probably to do with advertising. ITV will want to make sure that people watch the ITV1 region they are supposed to so they receive the correct regional advertising. Although ITV1 London is on 993 for people outside London in addition to your own region on 103, this is for Audio Description purposes. With BBC1 it isn't a problem, except in the Nations where occasionally the satellite signal is blacked out during sports events due to the BBC only having the rights to broadcast them in a particular area; this mostly effects BBC Scotland.

You can access them all by adding the channels manually. Can't remember the frequencies though.

Yeah me knows thats why I mentioned lol Would love to know the frequencies. Probably need to go for a google on it. I seem to recall the additional channels appear on Sky after a big wrangle between BBC and SKY over channel positions though?

The frequencies are on the TV Forum FAQ page which can be accessed via the Facilities menu at the top.

There are a few missing from the FAQ list. The up-to-date full list is here.

IIRC the regions all became available at the time BBC ended their encryption deal with BSkyB. Because they are all FTA (and provided virtue of the Licence Fee) they have to be available to everyone.

I think BSkyB were forced to provide space on the EPG for all of them for the BBC when they agreed to align "101" with everyone's postcode.

I'm sure there was some discussion on here a while back about the fact that the ITV1 regions would have to be treated the same way if they went FTA (rather than FTV as they are now), but ITV renewed their encryption contract so that ended the discussion at that time.

Furthermore, I believe 101-105 are protected EPG slots for the terrestrial channels. I wonder whether that will still be enforced after analogue switch-off? Shocked

Does that apply to radio services too? BBC (Radio) London is only on the EPG in London.

ITV channels are free to air.

Yes, ITV changed from FTV to FTA a while back.

Opps Shocked as I just realised (having just pulled my Sky Card out)

In that case my asnwer to the OP is incorrect. Will be interested to hear the real reason why only BBC and not ITV1 regions are on Sky.
