If I'm thinking of the right person here, I believe Dan was/is semi legendary in America after predicting a tornado on (I think) the Weather Channel. He acquired the nickname 'The Tornado Kid' for this reason.

Yep, I remember this guy... because he used to get on my nurves intensley. He seemed to have a rather old style (probably what I think would have been quite normal between 40s-70s) and just struck me as very patronising.
If it's below a certain temperature i.e 14/15'C, I've got a good idea I might need to 'wrap up warm' using my coat, I don't need some guy on the TV telling me this. I'm sorry, but if that's what's considered 'bringing personality' to the weather I'm glad the majority stick to the script.

Do you AVENGE everybody and everything, Crystal?
I'm sorry, but this is the impression I seem to keep getting....

Yeah Victoria Graham married a dutch guy and went off to Home Shopping Europe.
Yep - she is now Vicky van Beckhoven, and was presenting for Home Shopping Europe (based in Hertfordshire) last time I heard.

I cant help but wonder - why the hell would she want to do that? she obviously has qualifications in meteorology and I would have though she would be paid better then on a home shopping channel!
Do all the weather presenters have expert knowledge in meterology? I ask because I mention some interview with someone senior who said that the new breed of young girls were just pretty faces, not meteroligists. Rob McElwee always seems to make an effort of referring to where HE put the symbols on the map!

All BBC presenters work for the met office and so are trained meteorologists. Not all ITV presenters are - Sian Lloyd is definitely not a forecaster but I suppose she's picked up some knowledge after all the years!
All current BBC News 24 and National weather presenters have some sort of meteorological training, and work for the Met Office. However not all of them are trained met office forecasters, some are trained as met presenters. The presenting training is not as academic and doesn't take as long as the full forecasting qualifications - but still requires a good knowledge of weather.
It used to be that the presenters worked mainly on News 24 with the forecasters doing the BBC One shifts. However since the N24 shift presenter does the BBC One daytime forecasts, and the post-Newsnight weather this is no longer a firm rule anymore.
