I voted ITV. The regional programmes are so damn boring. Take them out and what do you have on Regional TV. ITV.

I voted Regions, but I agree on some of the regional programmes, you wished they were more realistic; Instead of some program exploring the countryside!

If you asked me if they should change back to regions i'd say no. But if you'd ask me whether i would prefer it the way it WAS, then i'd say yes.

Exactly. I dont know why this has been bought up yet again. You know you aint going to get them back, and its a waste of money. Even regional news programmes are getting boring now.

I personally used to detest Tyne Tees's presentation.

The idents were drab, then they had that horrible yellow river thing in the late 80s, then a succession of hugely unimaginative idents.

The only TTTV ident I ever liked was the C3NE era. I love idents/etc with fanfares and which feel 'big' - C3NE was that and more.

I lived in Sheffield between 93 and 96 and always thought the YTV presentation was far superior. I used to love the funky Calendar theme music after Supermarket Sweep, and it had a biggish newsroom.

I did have a life at Uni, I promise.

Definitely agree with that. Infact if you can find it, i suggest you read an article by Patrick Muirhead in the Times, which talks about his opinions on the decline of regional news, after working on ITV regional news for a while. Very interesting read.

ITV was much stronger when it was a network of different regional station. There were a larger number of production companies producing a much wider selection of programming. Today under the so called ITV banner we have wall to wall crap from Granada and **** indie companies. I think people should look at the bigger picture here, it's not just to do with local news and programming.

The only reason regional programmes are boring or dull is because thats how "ITV1" want them to be, so they have a reason to make less of them. If they had more money to make decent regional programmes then they would be more popular.

And I also notice that any regional programme that gets "too popular" also seems to get axed. You'd almost think they want regional programmes to get low ratings. Rolling Eyes

There used to be a lot of quality regional programmes that had decent budgets and decent audience figures - but that was when the stations were locally owned.
