It also (unfortunately) is the case that some regional presenters' faces don't fit on national TV. Some look a bit 'homely' if you know what I mean.

A mix of live national and recorded regional could be made to look like one programme.

Now THERE'S a damn fine idea, Philip!

It could go out from 6pm to 7pm couldn't it?

Have we been listening to the same vine full of grapes?

ITV management (A) lack imagination (B) Are running out of people to sack. The next logical step.

It does makes sense in terms of branding, the cost savings would be significant too (estimate £2million per year).

Technically. Start with a 2 shot. One presenter deals with the national international. Looks to co-presenter. Run clip for local item. Co- presenter hands back. Would look superb.

Have always thought the "them and us" looked and felt clumsy.

To all staff outside London. Last one out, turn the lights off.

Yup I can definitely see Christa Ackroyd on the One, Six or Ten. She's definitely no shrinking violet so would be able to do the 'hard interview'. Very strong-headed as well, she's got a column in the Sunday Express.

Christa would be awful as a serious, national newsreader.

I wouldn't be able to take her seriously at all...

I think the following HTV News (Wales) newsreaders would be great reading the national news!

Lucy Cohen
Jonathan Hill
Juliet Piper
Sally Johnson
Tara Eugene
Richard Morgan
Carole Green
Catharine Evan-Williams
Justina Simpson

And Zoe Tape and Sam Lloyd would be great doing the sport on the national news

Here is a photo of Catharine Evan Williams behind the newsdesk

Oh so nearly all of them then? Not that I know them all, surely they all can’t be totally great and up to national standard. There’s got to be one who stands out the most. Anyway, if all them went to be national presenters on various channels, HTV News will be a pile of s**t with the ones you have not picked running the shop and other new ones who you and viewers may not like.

As I explained earlier, HTV News (Wales) presenters need to be of a national standard, because it is the "National News of Wales". Accordingly, there are less skateboarding ducks-esq stories and the newsreaders have more authority.

However, I'd say Lucy Cohen stands out as the best, along with the new one (Richard Morgan?):

I live in the Granada Region and I very much enjoy Granada Reports, every weekday evening with Tony Morris & Lucy Meacock.

I also enjoy watching the ITV Evening News with Mark Austin and either Mary Nightingale (Who I Prefer) or Katie Derhem.

It is good to see Regional News and then a seperate National News, that is how it has always been.

The view of a single hour-long programme which has recoder regional links, is well excuse my language, but it is a load of CRAP.

Leave Granada Reports, Calendar, HTV News, Lookaround, Scotland Today, Central News At Six, Anglia News Tonight, Westcountry Live, UTV Live, Channel Report, The North Tonight, Tyne Tees Today, Meridian Tonight, leave them alone, as they are.

I am sure the Regional News Presenters wouldn't be happy if they say this Forum and heard your plans to scrap them.

In case of possible promotion for National News Presenting, we have alreday lost two of our good reporters, to National News. Emma Murphy now works for ITN and Trevor Green also works for Sky News, it was good to see him back in the summer, presenting the News.

I think Lucy Meacock and Ann O'Connor would be very good as National News Presenters.

But, with the recent merger between Granada & Carlton, they have said Regional Programmes will continue. I say bring the National News back to 1730 and have an hour-long Regional News Programme between 1800 & 1900, as well as Regional Programmes during the day and in the evening.

We want to see Regional Programmes and most of all Regional News, the day ITV1 Abandon or even AXE Regional News, will be the Nail In The Coffin to all the recent changes.

Long Live The ITV1 Regional News Programmes

You presume too much! "We want to see" should read "I want to see". Not "our plans" and dismissing a comment as crap is hardly a measured argument.

So, why would it make sense to keep things as they are? You have to make a case that makes both creative and commercial sense.

So, roll on the time when a 107-year-old Dan Rather (contracted from CBS) is recording links for our national news then, eh? Rolling Eyes

Although it's all too tempting for certain companies to head too far towards commercial "sense", and away from creativity.

Rachel Bulock from Granada has done bits for ITV News a fair few times.

I've seen Michelle May on the ITV News Channel, when they have used a Granada report.

Talking about ex Granada, Rachel Harrison is now based in the US for GMTV.
