I was listening to Century FM (North West version) when coming back from Leeds earlier and for some reason they had Tony Morris of Granada Reports fame on the phone actually promoting the programme, the main topic being buying dodgy Christmas presents. But I was thinking do they do this quite often and are they the only station to do this, as this must be the first time that they have done this ever or quite a while ago, probably before they broke up the IBA, but I don't know.
But I have to say it is a good idea and you wouldn't think they do this as Century FM is mainly owned by Capitial FM (AFAIK) and NOT Granada.
OT: When I was in Leeds today we walked down Kirkstall Road but I never knew that Radio Aire was right next door to YTV's Studios, plus I never knew that YTV's Studios were divided into two. But they need to update the signs slightly as one of them had on it 'Reserved for Guests on Calendar / Tonight.'
Last time I heard Real Radio at teatime was in October and they still did the Calendar preview then. Usually it seemed to be the person doing the Emley news round-up who did it, Faye Barker in those days.
Used to be quite commonplace years ago on ITV when there were still closedowns. Before signing off for the night, the regional continuity announcers used to make a point of letting you know that there was company through the night on your local ILR station ! There's a Central closedown somewhere on the web with such an announcement ...
heard a promo for central news on brmb about 6 months ago, iirc it was specifically relating to the days stories, and i think it was in with the advertisements rather than "in" the drivetime show - v/o-ed by a central bod. im not a regular listener to brmb drivetime so i wouldn't know if they still do though.
and don't forget bbc midlands send a presenter to promote the evenings show on the wm drivetime show at around 5.15, and very fab they are too.
The original Century Radio in Newcastle also used to do the same when Real Radio's John Morgan was in charge - they used to have Pam Royale and the North East Tonight theme music as a bed at 5-ish.
While driving through the Potteries, and having tuned the radio to (what else?) BBC Radio Stoke, they had a long interview with Nick Owen on what would be on that evening's Midlands Today. At the end the DJ said, "Well, thanks Nick, you can see all that tonight at 6.30 on BBC1... unless you live further north in which case you'll see North West Tonight."
I imagine that it alienated those viewers who have to manage with that awfully dour Gordon Burns.
