The picture you show is around September 2004 to early 2005.

It's obviously December/January, note the Christmas trees.

No, look at the Midlands Today Christmas Tree, I'm guessing 1 week before Christmas 2004.

I've had this file for a few years, which seems to show a gallery monitoring the local news/opt-outs from the BBC English regions. Can anyone explain what and where it is? The picture is a few years old at least.

BBC Broadcast Support, Birmingham. They monitor and support all BBC English Regions

The number below each screen is the satellite transponder number and Sky EPG number. I'd have thought the same display (or an equivalent) would exist elsewhere at the BBC too, AIUI the satellite transponders are coded, muxed and uplinked in London

The time is 13:12 so it's more likely between Christmas and New Year, when the news bulletins are shorter. It's no earlier that 2004, LDN became 'London' that year

And before 2004 Leeds were at Woodhouse Lane still.

I can't remember where I got it from, so obviously I don't claim the image as my own material.

BBC Broadcast Support, Birmingham.

They monitor and support all BBC English Regions, they have been shown a few times on Points of View and Midlands Today (mostly concerning DSO). It used to be based in Pebble Mill, here's a pic of it there;

Credit goes to pebblemill.org for this photo but they took it offline for some reason.

Is this arrangement still in place? Is their a particular reason why it is based in Birmingham and not London? Is it to do with redundancy?

i've always known them as mic ... monitoring and information centre - essentially what other bbc centres call cta, plus monitoring of english regions.

the removal of the photo, and complete lack of images and specific details online is understandable. i was however, surprised to learn that bbc tours include a visit to mic, apparently.

In fairness, David Gregory did an 'O'B (well live) from what Midlands Today astoned as "Broadcast Support, Birmingham". It was a similar set up, only with lots of Plasma displays and had cute a monitor that said "The network is running healthy" with a big smiley face on one screen.

If they can broadcast it on TV I see no issues with posting a pic! Interestingly it uses lots of Sky boxes!

Was that built in the space once occupied by gallery C at Pebble Mill?

On that picture, any idea why Norwich is showing East Midlands Today yet Cambridge are showing Look East?

Suspect the satellite receiver feeding that bit of the multi-viewer was tuned to the wrong service.

It is just 15 Sky boxes tuned into a Snell multiviewer
