Tyne Tees had the original Friday night live debatey-entertainment thing, Friday Live, which ran for quite a number of years in the 1970s and 1980s. Sadly, most of it wasn't kept. They then ran the inferior Nightline for a number of years after that, and only really gave up on this type of show in 1991 after "Late and Live" with Andy Craig bombed.

Tyne Tees had in 1991 or 1992 a sort of home video issues show called DIY TV. Eahomn Holmes presented it. I was on holiday in Whitley Bay in 1991 or 1992 and remember seeing a trailer for it. Sports fans may also recall the Border TV show The Union and the League, no relation to the show I host myself on youtube.

Central Weekend Live I think it was called, and it was still going in the early 2000s.

Can't remember the Andy Craig show on TTT but I have fond memories of Friday Live!

Indeed they did, as did Granada. But they were all started in the mid-late 1980s. TTTV's was quite a bit earlier.

Late and Live had been an attempt to capitalise on the success of the Granada/Central programmes, but had been done on the cheap. It was a more confrontational show than the earlier ones, and was produced by Zenith North at the same time as Tyne Tees produced "North Tonight" (no, not the Grampian News programme), which was a serious documentary programme with a debate tagged on the end. There was also a monthly feedback show, an hour long, which was output usually at midnight and was a "what is TTTV doing well/badly" type effort, presumably an attempt to curry favour with the regulators around 1990 and 1991. All of these were produced in the same studio with only minor changes to signage and lighting.

As a result, the lack of budget showed, and L&L didn't really work. The studio was the home to a number of hilarious "The Time The Place" episodes that looked like it had the same drunken chavs shouting off at 10am. TTTV wasn't asked to host the show after that!

Central gave us "Heart of the Country" for years. Thursdays 7:30pm, if I remember correctly.

Yorkshire and Tyne Tees showed the short-lived regional soap 'Quayside' in 1997 at 7.30pm Tuesdays and/or Thursdays. Watchable, but was never going to perform well directly opposite EastEnders. It was repeated in a daytime slot in 1998, I seem to recall.

Carlton had a London soap as well didn't they in the 6.30pm slot.

I know Granada had shows nightly at 6.30pm before (or was it after) Granada Tonight was extended to an hour. Also what was the name of Central's current affairs show?

Probably not on Fridays, though, as a decent station had taken over by then.

I remember a show in the 1980's only on in Granadaland called "Scramble" co-hosted by the late Bob Greaves. It was
in an teatime slot, after Granada Reports IIRC. There was also another Granada only offering called "Exchange Flags",
that went out in a lunchtime timeslot. I think "Scramble" was on Mondays, and "Exchange Flags" was on Tuesdays,

IIRC ... "Scramble" was about social issues in the North West, and "Exchange Flags" was an entertainment magazine.

I'm trying to remember the name of a motoring programme from the late 90s/early 00s that I believe only went out in the Central region to begin with but might have become national by the time it ended, anyone remember?

"Pulling Power". One of the presenters/reporters was former (Old) Top Gear reporter and Central News/Look East anchor Michelle Newman.

Pulling Power was also aired on Carlton London and possibly the Carlton owned HTV and Westcountry regions too.

That's the one. I think it was made by Central though.
