I'm trying to remember the name of a motoring programme from the late 90s/early 00s that I believe only went out in the Central region to begin with but might have become national by the time it ended, anyone remember?

Also got me thinking about other regional programmes on Central, the ones I remember most being "Our House" (possibly ended up on UK Style or similar) and one about canals called "Waterworld"?

They were usually on Sunday early evenings or Tuesdays/Thursdays opposite EastEnders - what programmes went out on other regions at these times?

Yorkshire / Tyne Tees had the Dales Diary of course. It originated on Tyne Tees and then was taken on by Yorkshire TV and later Border TV. It ran for 17 years in total, and I believe one of ITV's most succesful regional titles.

There is a website about it here : http://www.thedalesdiary.com/

Ironic then perhaps now that network ITV1 have a programme actually about The Dales. I wonder what Luke Casey makes of Ade Edmondson's shows ?

I used to love Our House. It would be great to see the opening titles again, sadly they do not appear to be on YouTube.

I seem to remember Granada had some sort of technology show (possibly called Cyberspace or Cyberworld or something equally cheesy) in the late 90s/early 2000s presented by the bloke who played Vic in Corrie and is currently in Emmerdale. I remember he never smiled and constantly looked bored but there was this one time when he finished a sentence and did this really false, bizarre smile. I was young at the time so I can't remember if he was being sarcastic or genuinely hated presenting that programme! Laughing

I'm assuming it was local. It was certainly very cheap looking.

"Pulling Power". One of the presenters/reporters was former (Old) Top Gear reporter and Central News/Look East anchor Michelle Newman.

Produced originally as a re-imagining of Farming Outlook (that had ended a couple of years previously) which morphed into a more "Out Of Town"-style affair with an emphasis on the farming community. Tyne Tees also produced a programme also called Out Of Town which ran for around 10 years (Eric Robson) and ended up with versions all over the place.

Pulling Power was also aired on Carlton London and possibly the Carlton owned HTV and Westcountry regions too.

Yorkshire and Tyne Tees showed the short-lived regional soap 'Quayside' in 1997 at 7.30pm Tuesdays and/or Thursdays. Watchable, but was never going to perform well directly opposite EastEnders. It was repeated in a daytime slot in 1998, I seem to recall.

TVS/Meridian had Country Ways which lasted for about 25 years and I dare say if regional programming continued to be produced it would still be going. Meridian also had Monkey Business which ran for about a decade before it switched channels to Five and became Monkey Life.

Country Ways was the follow-up to the Southern original, Out of Town with Jack Hargreaves.

If you take the full run, from the first Out of Town on Southern to the last Country Ways on Meridian that will be one heck of a long run.

Up Front, suceeded by The Late Debate, ran on Granada late on Fridays. The Afternoon Show was shown on Granada only a few years ago, during the slot where Border showed Shortland Street. I remember hearing a Border continuity announcement over a network trailer that Granada were showing.
