Refreshing the ITV1 Schedule

Well, it's Friday and the ITV1 schedule looks good and robust. However, the over reliance on soaps is stunting the growth of other drama. In addition, the early evening (i.e. after CITV) is looking poor in comparison to Channel 4. So, here's my two penneth for debate

1700 Early Evening Magazine
Similar to YTV's Tonight programme

1730 ITV Evening News
Lets face it, the BBC, wins National. Beats me, ITV is just as good
and more human.

1800 Regional News Programme

1830 Game Show
Catchphrase, All Clued Up or similar. Nothing too taxing

1900 Emmerdale
one soap is good. Lets ditch Corrie back to M, W and Su

1930 Sit Com
somebody must surely be able to come up with another Duty Free

2000 Drama/Comedy
something similar to Booze Cruise

2200 Sports Show
probably regional. Similar to YTV's current Leeds, Leeds, Leeds.
I'm from Sheffield, but even this interests me!

2230 ITV Evening News
ditch the silly Ten tag and get it to a place it can be easily found.
During the week, this also accomodates other Films with a long
run time

2300 After The News
anybody who was watching TVS in 1991 will recognise this.
Something akin to Jules Holland's show. Would appeal to all
ages. Songs, comedy and chat.

2400 Late Night
for the 'yoof' market

I think the following schedule would be good for a Friday

5.00 Shortland Street
5.30 Evening News
6.00 HTV News with Jonathan Hill and Juliet Piper
6.30 Regional Prog
7.00 Quiz
7.30 Coronation Street
8.00 Drama Series
9.00 Film
11.00 ITV News
11.30 HTV News with Juliet Piper
11.45 Film

And that's only by virtue of the fact of the need for variety in the schedule. Chuck that out the window and Jez's schedule would go as thus:

5:00pm-6am: Shortie Street

Very Happy

Anyway, my turn:

5:00 CiTV Gold
5:30 Regional News + on slow days something regional at 6
6:30 ITV News
7:00 General Interest/Quiz/One-off Extended Corrie or Emmerdale
7:30 Coronation Street/Emmerdale
8:00 Quiz Show/Film/Special Interest/Sport
8:30 Current Affairs/Documentary/Comedy
9:00 Comedy/Drama/Continuing of previous show
10:00 News At Ten
10:20 Regional News Roundup
10:35 Sport/Late night comedy/Drama continuation/Documentary
11:05 to finish time of previous item: Late night chat or whatever
Midnight onwards: Usual mix of night-time programmes

I might have knows you would reply to that Neil - you and Hygumba (or what ever his name is) seem to have a vendetta against myself and James Martin just because we may have made a few comments about Crossroads which you didnt like -get over it will you, no-one here cares about Crossroads apart from you two.

No Crossroads in your schedule OMG shock! Shocked

I'm not sure what the point of this is because it is impossible to have a stripped schedule in prime time - every night is different. You can only do this sort of thing with daytime

In HTV West area, something regional at 6.29 (just one or two days a week, when they can find something)!

The only changes I would make is moving the News back to 5.40pm and 10.00pm for half an hour everynight, as it was alot more suited to those times, and make sure that the programmes before and after the Evening News were regional, then thats how I would like it, the way it was before it was turned upside down.

Well, my Friday line-up would go like this:

(CiTV would continue until 5:30)
5:30 Regional Programme
Chat-show or a similar version of YTV's Tonight programme, then going into the Regional News

6:00 Regional News and Weather

6:30 ITV Evening News
Mon-Thurs is presented by Mark and Mary / Katie, Fri is presented by John Suchet and Andrea Catherwood

6:55 Weather Update

7:00 The Bill
If it is a special episode, it could run till 8:00, with Emmerdale starting at 8, Corrie 8:30

7:30 Emmerdale
If it is a special episode, it could run till 8:30, with Corrie starting at 8

8:00 Coronation Street
If it is a special episode, it could run till 9

8:30 FILM

10:00 ITV News Week
With Andrew Harvey and Leyla Daybelge, a summary of news from the past week, looking at headlines from the papers since Monday and talking to guests

With Regional news and weather

10:45 - the 8:30 FILM continued or a new FILM / Political Regional programme

Think you'll find I made no reference to *that daytime soap* in my post, although I'm sure you'd love the idea of "The Shortland Street Channel". Smile

Is there a problem with that?

Are you aware that when Tonight moved to 5.30pm it bombed in the ratings and was much more popular at 6.30pm. Therefore a regional magazine show at 5.30pm I think would be a bit of a disaster

I can't see the point of a programme looking back at the rest of the weeks news on a Friday night. Also, most people loathe the fact that the film is split up by 30 minutes of news, your schedule would see it delayed for 45 minutes. If the film started at 8.30pm it would mean that there would be half an hour left of it to go, so stupid to delay the conclusion for 45 minutes.

No, that schedule would never work.

No I wouldnt want a Shortland Street channel as a matter of fact - one episode in the schedule at 5.00pm per weekday would be ample.
Where you got the idea of a SS channel from ive no idea. I'm getting a bit fed up of this problem you have with me just cos I dont like Crossroads, its obvious thats the reason, the same reason people have problems with James Martin.

Anyway I think we should have a HTV Wales channel on Sky

1.00 HTV News with Andrew Jones
2.00 HTV News with Sally Johnson
3.00 HTV News with Steve Taylor
4.00 HTV News with Justina Simpson
5.00 HTV News with Tara Eugene
6.00 HTV News with Jonathan Hill and Lucy Cohen
6.30 Regional Prog (The Ferret, Wales This Week etc)
7.00 HTV News with Jonathan Hill
8.00 HTV News with Lucy Cohen
9.00 HTV News with Tom Barton
10.00 HTV News with Juliet Piper
11.00 Regional Progs (Pop Factory, karaoke Queen etc)
12.00 Close

Sort of like the ITV News Channel
