First joined ITV in 1968? Surely if he was on Associated Redifussion on opening night, that meant he joined in 1955? Or did they say "first joined
YTV
"

I suppose you could say Redvers' passing is an end of an era as we recently lost Shaw Taylor.
I wonder how many of the early ITV continuity announcers are still with us?
"Diddy" David Hamilton is well and truly with us (and not looking any older) from ABC/Thames but who else?
Well, Jimmy Nairn was the first continuity announcer on STV when it began on 31 Aug 1957, and he did a great speech at the start of our recent STV Reunion. Jimmy is 88 (his son is TV chef Nick Nairn, by the way.)
And going back much further, the delightful Sylvia Peters (one of the first postwar BBC announcers) is still with us.
Red was a lovely man who I knew from 1968 - we both worked for YTV until retirement.
He came to my 21st birthday party near Selby and my mum made sure there was a good bottle of red wine for him. Red was always good fun!
RIP lovely man with a voice like silk.

Lovely to hear (although I didn't doubt it) that a legend was a top bloke away from the mic too.
