Only continue with good comedians. And for Comic Relief to flourish it needs comedy hits to build a show around. That's the problem over the last few years, the lack of big comedy hits.
Despite the numerous technical issues and some sketches not working out, I'd like them to continue with the comedians only policy in 2019, but with a much tighter format.
The use of Lenny Henry and Jonathan Ross was a big improvement. I'd like to see more pres work for Luisa, she was better than Fearne Cotton at least!

Quote from RND 2009:
Quote from RND 2015:
Well Red Nose Day 2017 is all over and done with for another year. I can now reveal, I didn't bother watching ANY part of the Red Nose Day 2017 TV show last night. Having slavishly watched the Red Nose Day TV shows for several odd-numbered years now, and each time, found them predominantly a load of stupidity and tommyrot, with hardly any pop songs, I made the firm decision not to watch it last night. The content of past years, particularly 2013 and 2015, was enough to put me off wanting to watch this year's Red Nose Day TV show.
Due to me not watching last night's Red Nose Day TV show, I wasn't able to give a running commentary (e.g. amounts raised by Ryman, Sainsbury's, TK Maxx etc) or my points of view about the content of the show on here like I've done past years. Likewise, having not seen the show, I can't express an opinion on it, but judging by some peoples' comments on the official Comic Relief: Red Nose Day Facebook page, and a quick glance at a couple of national newspapers' website reports, it's probably just as well I didn't watch the show.
Anyway I've just found out from the Comic Relief website that the official end-of-night total was £71,308,475. Well done to all those who helped raise that much money.
No likey, no watchey.

TT, don't bother with the next Red Nose Day please and certainly don't bother summing it up on here.

At least we were saved from the running commentary this time.

Oh dear...
What a mess Comic Relief and Red Nose Day 2017 was. VT's were breaking, kept going downhill and the breakdown summed up every single bit that annoyed me about this years Red Nose Day.

Comic Relief night was often built around comedy hits.
Problem is there are barely any. Mrs Brown's Boys is at the top of the mountain, then Still Open All Hours, then Benidorm/Birds Of A Feather. And even then MBB is the only true hit that can win its timeslot. As hits have dried up they have struggled to fill the programme and they're left with more acts that aren't big draws for a mainstream audience. And they have to fill the programme with The a World Cup Of Biscuits! Seriously? Ridiculous! It's hardly Blackadder The Cavalier Years or The New Statesman special is it? It's like what happened with the British Comedy Awards. It got smaller and smaller as the mainstream comedy hits dried up and the BBC2/Channel 4 hits struggled to reach 1m.
Comic Relief night didn't feel like a big event compared to previous years to me. Not enough content and not enough big names for me. Special mention to the genius that picked a venue that didn't work and a sound team that couldn't get microphones to work. Imagine if BBC TV Centre was open now and the show came from studio 1 or from the BBC's Studio D in Elstree where Let's Sing and Dance For Comic Relief is tonight? Would have looked so much better.
Must do better next time. MUCH better.

What a shame RND seems to be a shadow of its former self. Though I do think it hasn't been any good for the past ten years really.
If you're going to broadcast for seven hours... you need to have 'must see' material to keep the viewers in. Apart from the Love Actually reunion, they had nothing else of any decent quality.
I'd rather them do two or three hours of quality television than seven hours of pure cr*p.
There's an urgent rethink needed as to how both Red Nose Day and Children in Need can continue if the current setup can't come up to scratch.
The other networks used to schedule rubbish against these shows as they would anticipate a huge loss of viewership. I dare say this is not the case anymore.

And right at the end an exasperated Russell Brand swore when he thought his mic was off. He knew it was bad.

Some good content but ultimately a tommyrot (sorry) production. The breakdown was a fitting ending..

It was a total car crash but because of that much more interesting to watch imo. Unlike the past few years, which have been instantly forgettable, RND2017 is going to be one you'll remember even if it is for all the wrong reasons. The people proclaiming it to be the worst thing ever broadcast are the people who complain Children In Need is exactly the same year in year out. At least they
tried
to do something different. I'm sure next year they'll go back to playing it safe again.
