I thought the Spice Girls video for Comic Relief was funny, Dawn French was hilarious.

According to todays 'Sun', 'Children in Need' is being revamped and tuned into a Comic Relief style "entertainment bonanza" with guest presenters. Meaning Terry & Gabby's roles are to be toned down. Gabby has quit as a result - saying she want's to concentrate on other things.

Good news - Children in Need is in desperate need of a makeover. For the last few years each show has been effectively a repeat of the last one!

True. The show has just become a glorified 7 hour 'top of the pops' over the past 5 years with west end musical performances and something from either Corrie or EE slotted in. I realize it's highly unlikely - but i'd like to see Terry bow out too, his performance last year was terrible.

Hmm...maybe we'll see Dick and Dom do the 7-8 'kids hour' - and hopefully lots of new ideas.

What was their source?

I see no mention of it anywhere on Media Guardian, which I'd otherwise expect.. No sarcastic comments from Wogan about it this morning either.

A BBC Spokeswoman

Edit: i've just found this from sky showbiz

Quote:
Gaby Leaves Terry In Need
Gaby Roslin has quit as co-presenter for Children In Need after being told her role had been scaled down.

The 40-year-old TV star has been fronting the show for ten years alongside the ever-popular Terry Wogan.

But after BBC bosses told Gaby that they'd decided to cut down her hosting role in favour of having a Comic relief style night with various big name hosts - she opted to quit.

Tezza will remain at the helm of the charity TV bash, according the The Sun, while Gaby concentrates more on her acting career.

A BBC spokeswoman said: "She wants to commit herself to her acting work and she felt that she could not fully commit to the show. But Terry Wogan will still be the main host."

Gaby, who recently split from her husband, is about to embark on a nationwide theatre tour with When Harry Met Sally.

So just her role was to be cut down, not Terry's

Can I ask that a new thread is started to discuss the changes to Children in Need.

Yes, it's linked to Comic Relief as in it's a BBC1 telethon - but the topics are different and the developments with CIN warrant their own thread.

Big Hair and beyond: How Original. And McFly singing the official song,.

That's where they've been going wrong the last few years..... it's all very well getting the latest big act in to do the official Comic Relief song..... but it's got to be funny - that's why it's COMIC Relief....not 'Boy Band Relief' (Fnah Fnah!)

Bring back records like Mel & Kim, Cliff & The Young Ones, Bananarama and Laneneenarnoo

Couldn't agree more, while the 1991 "Stonk" or 1993 Bohemian Rhapsody videos may make for slightly cringy viewing thesedays, they're still funny and absolute classics. As for the more recent stuff (Westlife, Boyzone et al), just terrible, cheesy and does it actually sell any better? Doubt it.

The car air freshener is good though - if a little odd smelling!

I got one today from Sainsburys. I really love the smell - it's a bit like toffee or fudge! Made me feel hungry on the way home from work.

Just pre-ordered my copy of the Little Britain DVD from HMV's site, £4.99 is pretty good really, though knowing my luck it probably won't be that long, but it's for a good cause, so I don't care that much. It's also odd that they're allowing the LB DVD to have the sketches shown about a month before the big night. But I'm looking foward to it, especially Vicky Pollard on Trisha!

I still have 'The Pick Of the Nose' video from 1997, which had the furry wrap around the case, the same style of the nose for the 97 event. But the previous video had the best of the comic sketches from all of the Comic Relief's, such as all of the Mr Bean's, the News where there is no News, Top Of The Pops with Bananrama and Bohemian Rhapsody.

For some reason I have always preferred Comic Relief to Children In Need, though CIN has Terry Wogan, CR is just better and it's all comedy themed really.

I actually think Comic relief is the best! (Well with McFly singing I ain't so sure)

I rather like McFly. And not just for "all the wrong reasons"! Wink

Especially the drummer, Harry Judd (no relation to Leslie Judd of Blue Peter fame, as far as I'm aware...)
