Red Nose Day 2005 has been officially launched today, with the theme "Big Hair and Beyond!", following on from 2003's £60m raising Big Hair Do.

The new nose is similar to the last one, but with a multi-coloured hair-do - but the big news is the changes to the format of the live 7 hour BBC1 show.

Chris Evans returns to the BBC after six years to join co-hosts Davina McCall, Graham Norton, Jonathan Ross and Lenny Henry on the Friday night show, hosting every hour for the first time in 10 years.

The seated studio audience has been axed in favour of people moving about the studio - in an effort to make it "more live and exciting".

As Comic Relief reaches it's 20th anniversary, 40m Red Noses have been sold, with £337m raised for charities in Britain and Africa.

Comic Relief programmes begin with Comic Relief's Great Big Celebrity Nose Job on Sunday at 6.35pm, drama Dad onThursday 24th Feb and Celebrity Fame Academy from Saturday 26th Feb.

Red Nose Night is on Friday 11th March from 7pm on BBC1, with highlights including a special episode of Little Britain.

Big Hair and beyond: How Original. And McFly singing the official song, in the true tradition, cheesy pop stars sing even cheesier songs. I expect it's another cover, I haven't heard it. Glad that Chris Evans is presenting, Ant and Dec not doing it this year. BBC must be bitter that they didn't go over to them.

I actually think Comic relief is the best! (Well with McFly singing I ain't so sure)

If it is 7hrs, is that including a news break?

The live stuff usually ends about 2am, but they usually have something on after. I think last time Adam and Joe did a thing about comedians, while before that Dermot O'Leary and Cat Deeley did Comic Reliefs best bits.

At the risk of sounding stupid..i don't get that. I think it's how it's worded. Are they all presenting the whole night together? Rather then a different host (or duo)every hour.

It looks like the hair might be made out of the same stuff they make those "Koosh" balls out of....

And what's the betting that the noses won't fit properly (like every year!)

The noses now are simplyred noses that allow people to stick on different eyes and mouths etc. Also it has a "groovy" hair style with rubber strips that you can't style.

Yes - the hair is made by Hasbro, who make Koosh balls - so it probably is the same stuff.

Again, yes - I got one today from the Campus Oxfam shop, and it slips off my nose after about 30 seconds.

The car air freshener is good though - if a little odd smelling!

That's where they've been going wrong the last few years..... it's all very well getting the latest big act in to do the official Comic Relief song..... but it's got to be funny - that's why it's COMIC Relief....not 'Boy Band Relief' (Fnah Fnah!)

Bring back records like Mel & Kim, Cliff & The Young Ones, Bananarama and Laneneenarnoo

At last someone who shares my thinking! OK old Red Nose records used to be naff but they were FUN. The stonk was brilliant, I still love it when it occassionally comes up on the music channels - also loved Right Said Fred's Stick It Out. Lately we've had Boyzone, Westlife and Gareth Gates doing the comic relief record. zzzzzzz. I know it's for charity but last time was the first time I did not buy the red nose single. This years is even worse. McFly?! Arrrgh!

I think that this will work. The classic seated studio audience at TVC always has a bit of 'deadening' impact in my opinion.

The format that the new Top Gear and Later with Jools Holland uses with the audience standing around is so much better and will work really well if there is interaction with the hosts and guests.
