So looks like Doug Naylor will be announcing details on the new series of Red Dwarf at the show's annual convention this morning:

Quote:
Up at 6am 2morrow 2 drive 2 Red Dwarf Fan Convention where I'll b making announcement on RD at 10.30. I'll b tweeting at 10.29 + 59 secs Smile

From his official Twitter page. I'd now presume we'll see filming commence later this year, for an early 2011 broadcast on Dave. I'd like to hope the episodes will be 45 minutes to make up for the advert breaks the show now has to accommodate, but I'm doubting it.

UPDATE: As promised he has tweeted the announcement at the same time as saying it at the convention:

Quote:
GNP have signed a contract with Dave for Red Dwarf X Now in contact with 4 principals. No probs anticipated

So Series X will go ahead as rumoured, with the fantastic idea of Series IX never really happening. And I think the "4 principals" are pretty obvious Laughing So yes, Series X of Dwarf is on the way!

UPDATE 2: More details are being confirmed:

- Six 30-minute episodes will make up the series.
- Pre-production October
- Shooting November to January [with a live audience!]
- Broadcast September 2012
- Scripts started soon, nothing written down yet, but ideas are plentiful.

UPDATE 3: Last few snippets of info from the announcement:

- Hattie could be returning to play Holly, now that the male counterpart isn't involved in the show.
- Talkie Toaster could be returning during the series. Laughing
- Model shots would be preferred once again, but costs could be an issue.

Well judging by all available data; I'd say it's lunchtime, maybe half one!

So presumbly Lloyd will be 'taking a holiday from Streetcars' at some point then?

How did they write Craig Charles out of Corrie last time with Red Dwarf filming?

I remember when Craig had his 'bit of local difficulty' a few years back, they never refered to him for 6 months, did they? (Shades of 'Crossroads'!)

Considering my first series was Series III, I'm pleased to hear of Hattie's return, especially seeing as Norman burned his bridges so spectacularly last time round.

He was just 'on an airport run' whenever there were scenes at Streetcars! Laughing

During pre-production of Back to Earth, Norm put the show into his schedule and so on. However, when the show for one reason or another had to change it's schedule Norm wasn't very happy and kicked off, and not only kicked off, chastised the show and vowed never to work on it again. [Thus explaining why Holly has been damaged in the ship's flood.]

Doug at this year's convention when announcing the new series stated he personally has no issues with Norm, and that the whole vendetta lies in Norm's head, and that until Norm realised this and comes to his senses basically, Holly will have to be Hilly.

I've lost track, was Series IX the 3 Dave specials?

Series IX is both the cancelled BBC series, and the fictional series mentioned during Back to Earth.

Also during an interview on Dave's website when promoting BtE, Doug did jokingly say that if they were to get a new series, they'd consider doing Series X but never do Series IX. Laughing

So Series X will follow on from BtE which in turn followed on from the mythical series IX?

Mind you, I was one of the few who liked the last series (8?) and I can't remember what happened at the end, they never really cleared up what happened at the end of 7 did they?
