The justification for the Red Been name is classic crap:

Quote:
Creative consultants Antidote, working with Red Bee’s in-house design team, said they chose the name to reflect the company's roots and its breadth of services. Red has always been Broadcast’s corporate colour and ‘Bee’ was chosen because they are one of nature’s expert navigators.

Pam Masters, CEO of Red Bee Media, said that Red Bee Media's aim was to help the consumer become 'equally adept as navigators'.

‘All our services bring stories and people together – whether it be a news story on BBC World, a promotion on UKTV Food for Ready Steady Cook, delivering last week’s episode of EastEnders over broadband on the interactive media player, or the latest football highlights to a 3G mobile,’ she said.

'We wanted to find a simple human expression of what we stand for. We recognised that everything we do across the company is ultimately about stories.'

BBC Broadcast, which was formerly known as Broadcasting and Presentation (B&P), was incorporated into a commercial subsidiary of the BBC in April 2002.

ARRRRGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Its always has to 'reflect' something and there always has to be a 'aim'

I hate that design blurb those lambie-narin and RED BEE talk about!

They talk like art critics in Tate modern.

anyway. the name is alright, but let finish this rant.....

They have to modify on letter of the logo,to make it a logo !

D**M!

Some interesting 'bee facts'.....

..... workers are sexually undeveloped females
..... workers' life expectancy is 28 to 35 days

and the best of the lot.....

Bees are unable to recognise the colour red

Great choice of logo then!

And how do we know that Red Bee will (editorially) keep their noses out of what appears on screen?

Because they're a service provider, who won't want to upset, and potentially lose, their clients.

Indeed although clearly the announcers and directors affect what is seen and heard on air, and they work for Red Bee. Maybe the question is how do we know that the BBC will be able to keep their noses IN what appears on screen.

Reminds me of what a BBC Manager once told us. On his management course he'd been told "Treat them like hire cars - work them hard, then replace them when they're worn out"

Current BBC management philosphy and, of course, replacements come cheaper!

Except the "fins" in the Broadcast Centre are vertical. Which reference prison bars, and other things which are vertical.

What complete boIIocks.
You're thinking of the interior fins in the atria:

Externally, there's a lot of horizontals, as you can just about make out here:

That's easy - move TX of BBC channels back into BBC premises staffed by BBC people!

The BBC's announcers/directors etc. are the unseen frontmen of its day-to-day service. To have a situation where the world's leading broadcaster no longer manages its own playout is embarrassing (even if most people don't care).

Not gonna happen - RBM have the BBC Television contract until at least 2012.

Show me a building that doesn't have any horizontal lines.

Playout is a Australian company, passage through London is a German company, and transmission is now at least a British company! Current BBC thinking is to get rid of the regional and national engineers too.... Sad

Since the BBC own very few assets now just how easy will it be to get rid of the corporation at the next licence fee round. The wholesale destruction continues following Hutton.
