I always used Morrisons when I used to be at Bradford University not that long ago - can't complain with Morrisons though. Lots of products and cheap prices and lots of offers! Morrisons certainly have improved the colour of the inside of the stores they have taken over near me...all very lively now! The yellow lettering that has been put up instead of the Safeway logo at most stores though does look a bit cheap and a bit plasticky.
They did let me borrow a trolley once when I bought too much shopping and couldn't afford a taxi back! Would Safeways ever do that? I did take the trolley back of course!
What appears to be one of the last surviving Safeways in the country, that of Safeway Megastore Plymouth, is finally being Morrisons-inised.
The store still has it's bright, fresh, modern, Safeway signeage that was designed only 4 years ago, whilst the petrol station has now been rebranded to Morrisons.
The same thing happened at my local Safeways with the petrol station now being called Morrisons but the store still having the Safeways sign. I dont shop in the store, I shop at Tesco's but I get petrol at Morrisons as its easier and I have 1 of those cards where everytime you get petrol they put points on your card.
My local Safeway had it's petrol station converted very early on and it always looked hideous. Just very recently the store was converted and what an improvement it is.
Everyone here seems to dissaprove of the Morrisons brand - I used to be one of these people but I just love what they've done. Their logo is very cheap and tacky looking but it works with what they're doing and to me gives the impression of a rather more classy brand.
Before it was converted that Safeway store had a massive car park that was always empty or half full and the store inside was cramped, untidy and the staff seemed not to care what was going on. But it closed one evening and opened around a week later and you wouldn't be able to tell if was the same store. The car park is now constantly crammed with cars - Infact I spend more time trying to find a space to park in than I do shopping nowadays. Inside you're presented with the 'Market Street' signs and it does look very Market like until you get to the freezers before the Deli counters.
The store's layout has vastly improved and seems easier to get around than it did under Safeway. The newly refurbished cafe is now twice as big as it was and it's always packed. There were never enough checkouts under Safeway but Morrison have added around another 8 and the staff on them seem happy now. Infact as you walk around staff are in every isle doing whatever it is they do and they look happy.
As for the adverts. They are just stunning. Personally I love the advert where the number can be seen in the sea or flying through a field of wheat or in the block of cheese. The fish monger one is another good one where he performs infront of customers to classical music - it's amazing.
I am glad Morrisons have finally changed the store over because before it was just outrageous and no doubt the rest of the half converted stores are just the same.
I just loved the old Safeway branding. Remember when they used the 'Lightening the Load' slogan with the babies? I've still got a few clips of them on an old VHS. Our local Safeway/Morrisons still has the light green branding outside in the car park but a couple of the signs have the darker green which was withdrawn when Safeway changed into their lower case logo.
What a successful thread! Chris should make mistakes like this more often!
This thread could overtake the popularity of "The Yorkshire and Lincolnshire Thread" in The Newsroom and also "Ministry of Mayhem - continued discussions of SM:TV Live still acceptable"!

Why not make it a sticky thread?
It's also twice as popular as the sam thread in Metropol, which is an interesting finding
Basically you had a Safeway reward card - called an ABC Card - if you wanted to use Scan and Go.
Correct me if I'm wrong. I think Safeway were the first to do some trials of the supermarket loyalty card. I remember when I joined Safeway at the launch of Milton Keynes store back in May of 1994 and they were a trial store for the loyalty card and the scheme had a lot more benefits and you were able to get more points than the usual pound per point scheme.
Whilst they were still testing the card, it would be Tesco who would launch a loyalty card on a national basis across all their stores and would gain a lot more customers in the process.
