That it the most snobby thing i've probably ever read.

You're the one with problems if you hate someone because they're average at something.

I'm not particularly a Moyles fan btw,- so am not 'sticking up for him' so to speak, I just had to comment..

Ok. IMO I hate him because he's such an average host. He's far from hilarious IMO and it's not long until he makes a terrible blunder in saying someting that will cost him his job. Lord knows, he comes close on a daily basis. Look at his little bust up with Halle Berry last week. And he's incredibly smug. I think JK and Joel were great this morning.

So back on topic, does everyone think it was real or all a pre-planned stunt?

The BBC has apparantly said that it was a stunt, but they may just be saying that after the event

JK & Joel did well covering for Moyles especially as they were on air for 5 hours in total!

I don't really understand how they thought it would be funny if it was a stunt Confused

All it really proved is how good JK & Joel are and how easily the self proclaimed saviour's shoes can be filled.

Thats not the same thing at all. Commercial stations get paid to play ads so that people go out and buy the products, Radio One and Two get paid nothing to play the records they choose to play.

Selling off Radio One and Two is a completly stupid argument that shows that these people don't actually know what they are talking about.

As someone has said it would have a terrible effect on the advertising revenue of all commercial radio because R1 an R2 would take a huge chunk out of it.

Secondly both do things that the commercial sector just would not do. They pay music and have shows that would not servive on commercial radio. The sepcialost shows would all disappear because as a commercial station R1 would make more money continuing their daytime lineup 24 hours than they would having Zane Lowe et al on air.

A commercial station could not hold an event like The Big Weekend for free and attract the bands that it did and have a stage dedicated to new music.

R1 an R2 will always get it for being too popular and for damaging the commercial sector but what real advantage would the commercial sector have if R1 and R2 weren't owned by the BBC, the truth is none at all. Not really, it wouldn't actually benefit the listener in any real way.

I don't remember an occasion in the past when Chris Moyles simply didn't show up.

Sara Cox, on the other hand called in sick numerous times leaving Scott Mills to carry on on his own until 10.

Also, at least there's two of JK and Joel, and they had Comedy Dave to help them out.

There was an occasion, however, on the old afternoon show where Chris turned up drunk and had to be removed from the studio.

I think you're talking about the occasion where he was pretending to be drunk - and even then it was so pantomime-like, an idiot would have known it was a joke.

No. He has been removed, physically, from the studio due to drunkeness.

Love the 6 hand over... "And here's Chris..."

It was hardly a "bust up".

Hmm i wonder what stations you listen to then??? Radio 4 and 5 live by any chance?! Clearly not Radio 1 or Radio 2 - if you listened to them you would know theres a huge amount of public service broadcasting.

I listen to a lot of Radio 1 - everything after 7pm is purely public service, playing new music and breaking new British bands. This would never ever happen if the commercial sector got their hands on it. And what about its campaigns - one on now about Sexual health and in the past a Beat Bullying campaign. Then on Radio 2 there are documentaries on in the evening - there's Jeremy Vine's news show. All of this would go if it was sold to the commercial sector.
