I don't know if this is on topic for this forum, but anyway

Have you all seen the state of next week's Radio Times?

The daytime listings pages have been pretty much scrapped, being replaced by a brief summary in one column on the evening spread.

To slightly make up for this, evening listings now start at 5pm rather than 6.30pm but this means there is no longer any room for some of the detail. Late night listings are now squashed up and there is no room for news presenters names, weather forecasters etc.

The 'pick of the day' is now a pointless double page spread and digital channels have been rearranged to put more focus on Freeview channels.

I can see the complaints flooding in!

Yep it's pretty bad - the extra detail for daytime was what made it worth paying 1.10 for over the rest. The improved Freeview listings are great, but it seems bizarre to have scrapped daytime and used the same pages for extra previews. Was that really what people were asking for?! Seems bizarre that, for example, you now get more detail for ITV2 before 12pm than BBC2, which has listings like "6am CBeebies, 7am CBBC, 12pm BBC Switch". Pretty poor. And then to say that "Radio coverage has expanded", except, no it hasn't, it's another column and everything is still crammed into that double page spread (don't even mention the local stations).

Also, some of the colours have been changed for the days. I think these have been the same colours for about 20 years now, seems a needless change.

Perhaps the RT have discovered that most of its subscribers are 9-5 workers, and don't spend the daytime, or overnights watching those particular programmes ?

Call me old fashioned, but in our house the telly doesn't normally go on any earlier than about 18:30hrs, and bedtime is about 22:30hrs.

I think keeping the other colours so long has worked well. I know yellow is Monday and red is Saturday straight away. It's Tuesday and Friday blue colours the've been messing with in recent years and now Sunday has altered from pure blue to dark blue.

I saw this new look the other day! I thought it was awful!! I shall definitely complain to the Editor after he has invited to let him know what we think on the 1st page. Radio Times is trying to fragment terrestrial TV even further by failing to provide a Daytime listing of any worth and pushing the digital channels onto seprate pages.

Extremely poor.

I'm not impressed with the new look for Daytime, although I don't sit infront of the idiot Box all day along it does help to know whats on during day, especially on my days off which usually fall on weekdays, other than the scrapping of the Daytime in-depths I'm quite pleased with the new look, the multi-channel section has improved.

Might pick up a copy then to take a look. Is the two-page Pick of the Day still generally text based or is much of the extra space taken up by pictures? I'd imagine should the complaints be sufficient it sounds like the daytime listings could quite easily be reinstated.
I preferred the internet when it had a sense of humour.

It's still largely text but they've also reduced the pick of the week at the front and done away with digital pick of the day as a result.

First thoughts are similar to the above (and they will not change - typeface can grow on me, but omission of listings will not!)

Squeezing daytime for channels 1-5 into a third page column is ridiculous. Example on Saturday - Barney and Basil's Swap Shop is featured in preview on the previous age but not listed individually on the listings page!

I would happily forego the additional previews on one of the pages to gain the full detail of daytime - and nighttime as well for that matter.

One improvement is that they have got rid of the Digital at a glance preview next to Channel 5 listings which was a waste of space as they were listed in full over the page.

I agree that the premium price is worth it for a detailed quality listing, but now it is little more than the likes of Heat TV listings - not the biggest exaggeration in the world.

Editor take note!!
