Yep, just in time for the election. Studio reminds me of Newsnight for some reason.
The title sequence is a bit OTT, based upon a satellite revolving around Earth, the logos gone wierdly futurstic too. They've kept the music, which ranks in The World's Most Boring Theme Tunes IMO.
In fairness guys, if Prime Time's studio, i.e. Studio 4 - the largest studio in RTÉ, were to become the permanent home for news, where on earth would The Late Late and Tubridy Tonight etc. go? Its not going to happen. And sadly a 24-hour news-channel isn't even
nearly
among RTÉ's priorities at the moment. They're not even competent enough to run a 30 minute scripted bulletin without any hitches so the chances of a rolling news channel are virtually non existent for the medium to long-term future.
More examples of RTE News productions being based on the beeb Same set style and Newsnight and keeping the same theme for the show's entire run.
In fairness, the current theme is not Prime Time's first - a different theme was used from the show's launch and retained for most of the 1990s. And was much more exciting IMO (though it would sound dated now).
I also liked the original Today Tonight theme at the time - though they dumped a year or two before the end of the show (straight after the 1990 presidential election IIRC) for something not unlike what Prime Time are using now.

Well they could rent studio space, or at least enlarge the news studio. It is completley unacceptable to be crammed into a space the size of my bedroom. Sure, they don't have the funds, but couldn't they at least make the set look larger, even if it's via CSO ala ITV.
That works quite well with no headline sequence and the CSO is used really well, both to "enlarge" the studio and for background graphics.

I agree but RTE don't seem to. By adding in the current background they actually made the studio a lot smaller...

Sorry - I just remember the current theme being used from the mid/late 90s up to now.

As long as they don't insist on walking around for the entire bulletin
I think I like the one with the programme name on the bottom better. I went for a more continental instead of UK style. Sorry about the quality, I did it in like 2 minutes.
