Looks like the original RTE thread was archived in the last few days... Anyhoo...

Looks like PrimeTime has a new studio, graphics etc. Looks fresh but they've recycled the RTE sports desks and the studio reminds me of Newsnight...

Yep, just in time for the election. Studio reminds me of Newsnight for some reason.

The title sequence is a bit OTT, based upon a satellite revolving around Earth, the logos gone wierdly futurstic too. They've kept the music, which ranks in The World's Most Boring Theme Tunes IMO.

More examples of RTE News productions being based on the beeb Embarassed Same set style and Newsnight and keeping the same theme for the show's entire run.

But if they can assemble this twice or three times a week for PT, why can't they give it a shot for news? Or at least give the 9 its own pres style...

I just don't understand how primtime always has a bigger and better set than the News. I just don't get it. Shouldn't it be the opposite?

Yeah, it should. At least for the 9 - the most watched news show in the country.

And that would free up Studio 3 for "RTE News 24" when/if it ever happens and for breaking news.

In fairness guys, if Prime Time's studio, i.e. Studio 4 - the largest studio in RTÉ, were to become the permanent home for news, where on earth would The Late Late and Tubridy Tonight etc. go? Its not going to happen. And sadly a 24-hour news-channel isn't even nearly among RTÉ's priorities at the moment. They're not even competent enough to run a 30 minute scripted bulletin without any hitches so the chances of a rolling news channel are virtually non existent for the medium to long-term future.

But it would be great if they could just use it for the 9 on weekdays to add something different to the number one news show in the country...

Any more on the "planned" morning news show yet?

In fairness, the current theme is not Prime Time's first - a different theme was used from the show's launch and retained for most of the 1990s. And was much more exciting IMO (though it would sound dated now).

I also liked the original Today Tonight theme at the time - though they dumped a year or two before the end of the show (straight after the 1990 presidential election IIRC) for something not unlike what Prime Time are using now.

Well they could rent studio space, or at least enlarge the news studio. It is completley unacceptable to be crammed into a space the size of my bedroom. Sure, they don't have the funds, but couldn't they at least make the set look larger, even if it's via CSO ala ITV.

I saw this German pres style a few weeks ago and thought it would be perfect for RTE News (well, apart from the synchronisation bit...):

ARD Das Erste - Tagesschau

That works quite well with no headline sequence and the CSO is used really well, both to "enlarge" the studio and for background graphics.

I agree but RTE don't seem to. By adding in the current background they actually made the studio a lot smaller...

Sorry - I just remember the current theme being used from the mid/late 90s up to now.

As long as they don't insist on walking around for the entire bulletin Rolling Eyes

I think the best RTE could ever do is this, based off of Taggeshau (sp?):

I think I like the one with the programme name on the bottom better. I went for a more continental instead of UK style. Sorry about the quality, I did it in like 2 minutes.

Pretty good. Maybe they could do it without the desk visible etc like tagesschau, and maybe green instead of blue so it's not identical Razz

And they should bring back to 2003 theme!
