I like the tangent this thread has taken. Can it be renamed The Radio One Show..?

Be careful what you say on this forum - we don't need to be tempting the more creative members! 😂

I still love the irony that Radio 1 has better idents visual branding on its videos than BBC One

Radio 1's videos are excellent, but do they promote the radio station or the shows featured? Not really.

However, I'm pleased that the radio station has embraced television as part of their multimedia offering.

I wish the other radio stations had a similar presence in the (TV) iPlayer. 5Live has a multi camera webcam stream on its website, why can't I watch that on my Smart TV or Roku? Particularly for some of the appointment to listen shows like Fighting Talk.

I think Radio 1 'get' visualisation as a concept and do it very well indeed. They fully embrace sharing as a means to reach their audience without their audience having to tune in to a radio. This is a problem facing all traditional media outlets, as younger people, and indeed many older people, consume less linear output and do more picking and choosing via stuff shared on their social media timelines. Innuendo Bingo is a rare example of a feature that works very well on the radio, but also looks great if you watch the stream. Same with the Live Lounge.

LBC are another prime example of how well visualisation can be done - I'd never really listened to any of LBC until they started sharing some of their brilliant stuff via social media. Both LBC and Capital now have studios specifically designed to look good on screen (quite what that does for sound quality I'm not so sure) whereas the BBC (Radio 1 excepted) still have cameras wall mounted high on the wall pointing at presenters in radio studios. Not quite so groovy.

Yes, and Radio X too, though whether they look good on screen is another matter, they all look a bit bright and garish to me. I'm sure I read that some of the studios at Global have interchangeable backgrounds so they can be 'LBC' or 'Smooth' on camera just by pulling down some blinds and changing the image on screens

Here's an article about the new Capital studios, photos missing but there's an interesting build timelapse:

I suspect the studio acoustics will be rather 'bright', however, compared with all the EQ and processing atrocities that are applied between the mic and Tx, it doesn't really matter.

The marathon show Chris Moyles did a few years ago that was simulcast on the red button was compelling viewing, even though it was from the scruffy looking old studios in Yalding House with ugly looking lights in shot.

I'm 30 and I find 6 Music a strange station. It's on in my workplace most days but then it's genre of music doesn't really appeal to me.

Strange as in different? I think it's an acquired taste especially if you're used to heavily formatted or genre based music stations. I've heard it described as a popular music equivalent of Radio 3 - curated music presented by informed presenters.

Personally I'm a big fan, although I don't like all of it. I can listen for 20 minutes and in daytime at least I'll always hear something great that haven't heard for ages, something new and great, and something I really can't stand. But I'll always tolerate the latter as I never know what's next

I'll admit I'm becoming a bit of a fan of Radcliffe and Maconie in the afternoons since i started my current job in January this year. It took me a while to find out that Gordon Burns was the voice over in their chain ident!

I don't often get to listen to the evening output of 6 Music as I'm home by 6.

I'll give them credit, you don't hear the same number of songs repeated again and again like you do on some stations in the same day.

Global's studios are designed by Jago Design , whose other work is probably familiar to regulars here...

Yep, back from the days when he was presenting North West Tonight from the same building. Radmac reached it's 10 year anniversary last week as did Shaun Keaveny on breakfast which is a long time in radio

There are all kinds of odd Radmac in-jokes, but I've never worked out why they play the Thames ident music between songs every now and then...

That 6 Music daytime schedule has been unchanged for a very long time. Steve Lamacq had the teatime slot since 2005, Lauren Laverne's morning show is the baby of the lot, beginning in November 2009.

NRK in Norway broadcast their version of 'PM' on TV and Radio. Whilst there are around 60,000 who listen to it daily on the radio, 100,000 people watch it on TV. I conveniently discovered this very recently as I have started to learn Norwegian. You can find it on NRK 2 (TV) & NRK P2 (Radio).
