Radio 1's videos are excellent, but do they promote the radio station or the shows featured? Not really.
However, I'm pleased that the radio station has embraced television as part of their multimedia offering.
I think Radio 1 'get' visualisation as a concept and do it very well indeed. They fully embrace sharing as a means to reach their audience without their audience having to tune in to a radio. This is a problem facing all traditional media outlets, as younger people, and indeed many older people, consume less linear output and do more picking and choosing via stuff shared on their social media timelines. Innuendo Bingo is a rare example of a feature that works very well on the radio, but also looks great if you watch the stream. Same with the Live Lounge.
LBC are another prime example of how well visualisation can be done - I'd never really listened to any of LBC until they started sharing some of their brilliant stuff via social media. Both LBC and Capital now have studios specifically designed to look good on screen (quite what that does for sound quality I'm not so sure) whereas the BBC (Radio 1 excepted) still have cameras wall mounted high on the wall pointing at presenters in radio studios. Not quite so groovy.
