Never even heard of the UK Theme until this morning. Then again, it was only last year when I heard of Sailing By.

Sailing By is perfect for drifting off to sleep to

The UK Theme is normallly a bad thing because it means that you're awake very early. Although the only time I've heard it live on air was when I was up early to catch a plane, which was a good thing!

I bet the real reason behind its axing is political corectness! I thought Radio 4 was meant to be BRITISH, and proud of it!
Yes, clearly political correctness gone mad, etc.

We'll have some muslim or asian music to replace it, no doubt.

Two British MPs have tabled motions in the House of Commons criticising the BBC's decision to scrap the early morning UK Theme on Radio 4.
The five-minute medley of English, Welsh, Scottish and Irish tunes will be replaced by a news bulletin.
Tory MP Philip Davies and Labour MP John Spellar tabled motions with a third planned by Austin Mitchell.

As a regular up-at-fiver, I loathe the UK Theme. It was fine to start with, but after you've heard it a few times, it really grates. Nothing else makes me hit the off switch so quickly. Hooray for Mr Damazer! Very Happy

Sailing By is fine. Not that I hear it much.

I think it is absolutely appauling that Radio 4 are considering scrapping the UK Theme. Hopefully the Early Day Motions, and bombardment from listeners and supporters of the piece of music to the controller of Radio 4, will put a stop to this madness. Like the Poll on this thread say's, what next? Sailing By? The National Anthem? The Shipping Forecast??

Madness

I'm not one for condoning spamming, or unsolicited emails, but isn't the email system at the BBC firstname.lastname@bbc.co.uk ??

What's the name of the BBC Radio 4 controller again??? Wink

Mr Damazer's PA will be delighted.

Well there is more on this now that the single has been released today, though I doubt anything will alter.

If the station will open at 5.20, surely ten minutes of news until 5.35 is more than enough to be a 'pacy' bulletin -- then again I only like it because Men of Harlech is twice as long as anything else.
