Although not TV presentation, I think it deserves a mention.
I listen to Radio 1 on my way to work every morning. Have people noticed how the presentation package has become very "1980s'?
Chris Moyles jingles sound like they have come straight from the 1980s, but that's ok as i'm guessing they're parodies, but have you heard the newsbeat jingles? They sound very techno-ey, very 80s! I swear when i first heard them the first thing i thought of was the music to "Flight of the Navigator" a very old film with techno-ey music like that.
I just think its Moyles trying (and succeeding to a certain extent in my opinion) to recreate the golden age of Radio 1 (again in my opinion) when they had Mayo on Breaky, Bates with Our Tune and Steve Wright in the afternoon.
I don't think this sound will be spreading to any other bits of Radio 1 soon, but I do think Zane Lowe is as much a 'show man' as Moyles - he takes time to craft his programme, and it stands out. The others seem to just turn up and play records with the odd feature compared to these two.
I think I understand what you're on about. Moyles new package has been produced with a live band to give it a full instrumental feel and I think it's worked quite well. I wouldn't say it sounds at all 80's, as for the new newsbeat it does time to grow as they all do, though it's nice that they change it every now and then to keep it fresh.
Certainly though the way Radio 1 sounds is heaven compared to other stations (mostly local) across the country, why this is I don't know whether it's technology or what it is.
For example my local station; signal 1 sounds awful most of the time, the mics never seem right and the jingles are ok, but not the best. Though they do broadcast from an old building that's straight from the 80's.
Chris Moyles has a lot of critics - which I feel is undeserved. He's added a million listeners to the show (and therefore Radio 1) and he's actually a really innovative DJ. As someone said above, it's not just sticking records together - the whole show has a 'sound' and it's a great piece of radio. Very wise decision to replace Sara Cox in my opinion.
Also, I'd keep my eyes on Scott Mills - I think his show is really good, especially features such as the Celebrity Call.
Radio 1's definately on the up (Jo Whiley might be an example of stagnation during the daytime though). Having said that - shame about the playlist.

I'm actually a bit disappointed with Scott Mills since he's been permanently 4-7. I think he's very good but the features are a bit weak. Hopefully he'll get better, but I get the impression he can't be asked.

Jo Whiley's hardly stagnant - the live lounge is fantastic, especially the cover versions.
The thing I don't really like with Scott Mills at the moment is the fact that the features are a bit weak, and the show seems to revolve around them, if you see what I mean.
Where as Moyles has mastered the technique of creating a show where they basically sit around and talk about things and drop in features quite randomly, bar of course Car Park Catchphrase, that's still great to listen to after being on every day for a year. And I think that's down to the way they use the recorded clips from Roy.
I do like the daytime Radio 1 line up, all of them are great in their own ways and are better than tuning into a local radio station. And I do believe that is down to the playlist, they choose great songs, though there could be more, you usually hear about 3 in the following show.
They also have appeared to have mastered the weekend programmes, it's just a shame that they're moving JK & Joel to the Chart, I'd much prefer to listen to them over Sara Cox, she's ok, but I just prefer JK & Joel. It will also be interesting to see how her show pans out as Dom's on with Chris, and Chappers is on with Scott, though I presume that she'll end up with JK & Joel's team. It may just turn out to be her talking about the dog and the baby in between songs, it may be completely different, we can only wait and find out.
And if you are a fan of the Moyles jingles (including Dom's travel one) you can download them at the Music4 website (yes the same company that did the BBC LDN music).
