Here's a quick clip I recorded while it was happening. Missed when it actually started but Chris Moyles shouted after the bell started .... IT'S TIME TO WAKE UP LISTENERS GET UP GET UP GET UP... or something to that effect with everyone laughing in the background.

Then it's that time of the show again where Dave says ..... Let's get ready to........

File is MPEG 2 and might not play on some peoples systems.

Can't download it either. I keep getting a 404 not found error. Confused

Yes you have to copy and past the entire address not just the highlighted bit.

If you want to hear it go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio/aod/radio1_aod.shtml?r1moylesfri#

the first evacuation was just after the 8:30 news(at about 1:41 into the clip)... and is very subtle, the other is after the 'Seamless Link at 9:03 (at about 2:10 into the clip)

Listening to the recording I suspect that he emergency material is also held on the playout system in the studio, hence how Chris was able to seamlessly link into and back out of the emergency tape the first time round.. Second time though he has a few problems getting the thing started! But in both occasions there wasn't enough to allow the backup to kick in automatically

It's quite a basic feature to have a playlist of jingles/music programmed into the computer so if they need to get out it will run by itself until the building is re-populated. Of course the one problem with that is that if there is a fire the computer will burn along with the building!

If you dont want to wade through Listen Again then there's a clip of the second evacuation at chrismoyles.net in the sound vault under "funny bits".

Still doesn't work after doing that! I still get a not found error.

How about renaming it to something a bit more 'web friendly' (ie without the spaces and the commas!) Wink

How about using some form of a braincell to think of these things and then go back to the original post and click that link.

Ah, probably explains it. My braincells aren't terribly active at this time of the morning! Laughing Rolling Eyes

After hearing the clip, this is the 1st time I've heard dead air on Radio 1. Obviously the tape didn't kick in after 10 seconds of dead air - does it have to be started manually by someone at control?

On another matter, why does Listen Again not allow you to wind to a specific part of the show? Also why do they not have broadband streams on Listen Again?

No station would have a automatic tape that kicks in after 10 seconds, it's far too short a duration, it would be going off all over the place . As I mentioned earlier it seems like they have an hour of music ready on the studio computer to start in such an event. Automatic delays are used when there is a fault which silences the station, which would mean that no-one can start it manually.

The way to start the emergency tape isn't just create a long period of silence, as it's in another location and more difficult to get back out of it again when you return.

Apparently the BBC stations all have diffrent durations set on their automatic emergency tapes, Radio 3's for example is longer than the othersbecause they do have purposeful periods of silence

They can't let you download them because they're full of music!
