ollowing the successful launch of brand new channels dedicated to some of the biggest sports last year, Sky Sports will now add a channel dedicated to horse racing.

‘Sky Sports Racing’ will replace ‘At The Races’ and will be available to every Sky TV customer in the UK and Ireland at no extra cost. It will be available in HD for the first time and produced from Sky’s studios in West London, bringing live racing from over 650 UK fixtures as well as high quality exclusive international race meetings.

Ahead of the launch next year a ten-year deal with Chester Race Company has been signed to bring live racing from Chester and Bangor-on-Dee to Sky Sports Racing from March 2019. The oldest racecourse in the UK, Chester was established in 1539 and was awarded the ROA Racecourse of the year in 2015 and 2016.

And so ends the legacy of the failed Channel 4/Arena Racing Company joint venture of the early 00s, when Channel 4’s racing coverage was also branded as attheraces. Best theme tune they ever had though.

It's not the one people remember though - that'd be the Alan Hawkshaw theme (which is a surprisingly popular choice at funerals).

And in HD. Great, because the picture quality from the ob's on ATR sometimes is beyond dreadful.

And they've wrestled Chester and Bangor back off Racing UK - although Irish racing is going the other way, and that is going to create a larger hole in the Sky Sports Racing schedules.
I still think the Irish Racing community will kick up a stink, when their meetings from Naas, Kibeggan and Thurles, are religated to a red button, or PiP, to cover Newbury, Cheltenham or Kempton races with RUK.

I guess then it'll remain detached from the other channels in the EPG, though with no tennis and less rugby from next year they might risk axing Arena or Action. Indeed Sky Sports Racing will probably be their only channel where you can be sure of live action almost every day of the year.

I saw it'll be added to Sky Go but any news about Now TV? Interesting too it'll be available to every Sky customer, not just sports subscribers.

I think it's inevitable that Sky Sports Racing will be available on NOW TV.

So basically, it's another Sky Sports Mix with regards to viewing?

Seems like it. Not quite sure how At the Races is currently sold.

What is the status with Sky Sports F1 now - didn't that used to be available to all HD subscribers?

Used to. Now it's in the Sky Sports sub structure.

At The Races is currently in the Entertainment pack along with SS Mix and SS News, and Eurosport.
