One of their guests on the 00:00/08:00 Show mentioned that QVC "is about to move to widescreen".

I'm not saying it's not true, but I'd take a very pessimistic view of anything a QVC guest says. Most of them haven't got much of a clue - a while back a guest demonstrating a DTT receiver said that QVC has always been on the platform, when at the time it hadn't even been on for a year. Evidently the guest hadn't heard of a little channel called Shop which was on there from 1998-2002.

Oh incidentally, supposedly QVC is live from 8AM-2AM. However, this morning on the 'live' 9AM technology hour, they were demonstrating a combo DVD/DTT box - and despite it being live the presenter somehow managed to be watching BBC3 and BBC4! I think someone has been telling porkies.

LOL!! I noticed that too! An interesting piece of kit mind, a DVD and Freeview box combi, all for under £200. With it being a TSV, it'll be demonstrated throughout the day unless it sells out so it could be worth looking out for BBC3/4 appearing again before 7pm!

As for a move to widescreen, about time!! It would mean the graphics would need updating, but they've been around (albeit with a colour change) since the channel's fifth anniversary in 1998. Perhaps they'll hold off until October for the channel's tenth birthday to again relaunch their graphics package, this time being widescreen friendly. Screenshop manages it, as does that now legendry graveyard for old presenters from the dim and distant past, "Bid up.tv". No reason why the supposed market leader, QVC can't match their competition and go wide at last!

I agree about the guests possibly not being right about this. I would't be surprised if it does happen though as QVC have always being quite good technically.

I did find it funny when the bloke was flicking on the channels, he went past five pretty quick Smile I noticed that on the four screen view at the start of the hour it had Ideal World in the top left with Steve Whatley. They didn't even realise either.

A number of the trailers on QVC are 14:9, have they started making them in 16:9 and ARC'ing them for now?

This is really nowt special, and not really worth opening a new thread in the Mocks forum but I've
made this quick mock of how QVC's on-screen graphics might look when they go widescreen.
That's assuming they are going to go widescreen at some point eventually . . .

Nowt much different as you can see, aside from slightly updated fonts, and the main banner that
displays the QVC phone number and web address, stretched across the full width of the picture.

Obviously, everything is 4:3 safe to accomodate those with digital STB's not set to 16:9 mode.

I'm sure other TVF members can make something much better than my quick effort . . . !

I know the main 'product selling' graphics have seen little more than a colour change, but pretty much everything else was totally replaced in 2001. Trailers, programme menus, idents, and even the logo are nothing like they were before. The only graphics which haven't really changed are the main 'product selling' ones.

I kind of like their current presentation though. At first I hated it, it is very simplistic compared to what they used to have (although now many programmes have their own unique titles which is an improvement on just superimposing the programme name onto the ident as they used to), and I still miss the countdown to the TSV at midnight, but their current presentation has grown on me. It's nice and clean and their is beauty in it's simplicity and I hope it doesn't disappear after only 2 years. I do however wish they'd bring back their old music instead of the tinny muzak they have now (albeit preferably without the person screaming 'QVC' on it).

On my new hackery this satellite services, I discovered the net footless of buying with high curiosity. The product, which had a demonstration, was without desire to each possible soul. It was a strangely formed hat, that of nasal was made and looked grass. It is costs of the acquisition was outside of the budget of mass. I had the feeling, which should be simple I reciever by excess amounts currency for the getting thing of such evil!

LOL! I loved that. I agree it was such a classic. Shame they scrapped it as it was a bit cheesy but it was still very nice and everyone associated it with them for obvious reason.
