it's good news anyway ...

'Good news' ? Think about that for a second.

All of a sudden 'Quizmania' constitutes quality programming in the wide world of broadcasting?

By definition, this genre's priority is honestly not quality, probably not even close - this is phone-in gambling, and I don't need to outline what its core purpose is. If you lose sight of that fact, you're effectively refusing to call a spade a spade.

So its bad because it makes money?

How on earth did you conclude I was suggesting that?

Both you and I know that is a ridiculous statement, and out of context - don't put words in my mouth, and read it again with care, as you've clearly missed what I was putting across.

Sorry, I assumed you were saying that this genre's priority was making money. What were you saying this genre's priority was?

Why does it matter? If you don't feel like entering, there's no "con" to make you do it. But if people want to spend their money on entering quizzes, it's their choice.

I personally would never pay to play Quizmania, but the "quiz TV" aspect isn't why most people liked it. It's the fact that it was consistently entertaining, which is more than can be said for most TV shows right now.

Is it always though?

Marks & Spencers make money. Quizmania essentially steals the money of vulnerable people who it cons into phoning in. (and I know it was the best of a bad bunch but lets not compare Shipman and Hindley)

Although you are a supporter of Tumble Tower's channel numbering system so your opinion really doesn't count.

Why are you speaking out against Quizmania (TT Code: FM1) which is (as far as any of us know) a honest quiz programme, when there were cases of other shows (TT Code: CC1) putting fake callers to air and showing pre-recorded shows as live? Anyone would think you didn't know what you were talking about.

The truth is, Quizmania were more victims of the 'Great phone-in scandal of 2006/7' then any of their callers.

The only thing Quizmania critics come up with is the rawl plugs incident. It was a difficult answer, impossible even but at least it was honest. If someone guessed it, they would have got the money.

Best of a bad bunch and the only show of it's type I bothered watching as it didn't take itself seriously unlike most of the rest of the genre.

I think any comeback though is inevitably doomed though - only possible way it could have any chance at all is if it replaced Quiz Call on five.

Hasn't got a chance then anyway then has it. Look at how shoddily produced that pile of tripe QuizCall is.

Thats not the only possible way. The website says it could be back like we have never seen before.

- Pre-recorded games ? As long as the graphics are live, the presenter could be pre-recorded. There are various roulette and bingo/keno style games that are currently doing this. There is also Speed Auction TV that uses the pre-recorded presenters/live graphics idea.

- Online only ? Imagine this... Greg Scott sat in his own toilet at home broadcasting live over the Internet. No studio costs and no crew. Its the next step [down] from Play DJ. Maybe they could broadcast on TV for a couple of hours overnight as well which would act as an advert for the online version. Anyone else remember Paul Lavers doing a quickly arranged self-opted quiz show when none of the crew turned up at Friendly TV a couple of years ago? It was terrible (but interesting). There was also the loss making cheggersbedroom.com that came before it.

- On Radio ? As above, this would be much cheaper than the Quizmania we already know.

- Live from Hiroshima ? Some shows (including ones that involve Greg Scott) already broadcast from foreign lands due to cheaper studios, crew, presenters etc. Maybe Quizmania could do something similar.

Anyone have any other ideas?

I heard from someone pretty reliable that Five was the original plan. It was supposed to happen in (about) September when Quiz Call's contract ran out, but obviously for one reason or another it didn't.

Unless Lottie Mayor climbs through people's TV screens wielding a knife and threatening to cut bits off unless they dial 0901 326 3000, yes.

Liam, ex (I think) Quiztelly admin programmed and launched "Quiz Chat Live" in the space of about two weeks. I did the (Quizmania style) graphics, and he supposedly got the rights to the soundtrack so we could use that.

It didn't last long, the point is it was piss easy. So an online Quizmania wouldn't surprise me.

Its not for you or me to say what people do with their money; Its called FREEDOM of choice.

We have far to much interference in private affairs in this country.

Your so right we must have choice to watch what we LIKE. And as some do not like channels/shows like this others do like. BTW I do not like quiz channel but others do and have the right to watch and play along if they like.

Oh please, don't call foul and whine about "eroding freedoms" when someone takes an extreme dislike towards a format which is ugly and by no means entertaining even if boredom's got you to the point such trash would be considered watchable.

Too many strawman arguments eitherside.

No idea where, when, or in what form ... but it's good news anyway IMO. Mr. Green
