Will this be on ITV1?

the rumour is it will be else where:

Hopefully dumped somewhere up on the Sky EPG (stay off Freeview) where it will die a death 2/3 months after launch and finally kill off this genre

'Good news' ? Think about that for a second.

All of a sudden 'Quizmania' constitutes quality programming in the wide world of broadcasting?

By definition, this genre's priority is honestly not quality, probably not even close - this is phone-in gambling, and I don't need to outline what its core purpose is. If you lose sight of that fact, you're effectively refusing to call a spade a spade.

So its bad because it makes money?

Best of a bad bunch? Big woop, the whole entire genre is rotten to the core so being better barely qualifies it as actually good in a general sense.

Oh, I don't know, it's the same sort of fool which supports this as the type which supports the shopping channels.

The words "Could be" means that not all the cards are on the table and the idea could still be scrapt. It would be great if QM was brought back and still was of the great quality when it dominated that ITV nightly schedule with the lovely Debbie King Smile. We wait and see.

From what I've heard, DK has pretty much confirmed that it's returning in the New Year.

Bear in mind the reason Quizmania closed in the first place because it wasn't generating enough revenue. It wasn't generating enough revenue because the show refused to do what everybody else was doing and changing the answer on the fly to encourage more callers therefore generating more revenue. QM was probably one of the more honest shows going at the time..

Now that everything powered by Premium Rate numbers has been mauled to death in the media, the only quiz service that seems to still be going is Quiz Call, itself now relegated to weekend filler fodder on the Five channels. Make Your Play finishes next week, in line with the original ITV announcement to phase ITV Play out on ITV1 and ITV2 entirely by the end of the year.

In all honesty, any new Quiz TV venture (including QuizMania) is going to be doomed from the start. If you can't latch onto a channel that's 600 places up from yours in the Sky EPG for a few hours a day (or even better, if that channel's also on Freeview) then you've no chance. Even what's left of the Interactive TV programming seems to be Roulette (real and computer generated) and Blackjack. Live Roulette makes a big deal out of using a national rate telephone number and not a premium rate number.

Yup. In fact they were making a loss most nights, according to that huge message Greggles posted on his site.

Fremantle are obviously confident that this new "way we've never seen before" is going to work, though, or they wouldn't have brought it back I guess.

How on earth did you conclude I was suggesting that?

Both you and I know that is a ridiculous statement, and out of context - don't put words in my mouth, and read it again with care, as you've clearly missed what I was putting across.

Marks & Spencers make money. Quizmania essentially steals the money of vulnerable people who it cons into phoning in. (and I know it was the best of a bad bunch but lets not compare Shipman and Hindley)

Although you are a supporter of Tumble Tower's channel numbering system so your opinion really doesn't count.

people have a choice to call in and DO NOT nead a nanny to tell them what to do. Many choose to play quiz tv instead of spending the same cash in pubs or quiz machines

I would edit that last post a bit as it is currently actionable to both the site and you personally, should freemantle wish to draw a line between comments on call tv and your direct suggestion that they are dishonest.

So, GaryC, they are honest then?

Who says, then, that they won't then put it to better use? Like buying food? Or putting it into a bank account?
