I was a bit wary at first of Quizmania, but after watching it since Christmas time I absolutely do like the show. It may be a cheap filler for ITV who cannot get the viewers they once had for Night Time (due to rubbish they have scheduled over the past few years - now remember the heydays when we had Hitman and Her, Donahue, The Big Picture Show, original America's Top Ten, Quiz NIght, The James Whale Show, OSM, Saturday Night at the Movies, Sportsweek et al and all the classic US drama's and decent NightTime films - and not forgetting the Granada NightTime cat!!!).
I do think that this could be a hit if promoted well and shown at a regular time and with a regular team of presenters and a regular length of time. I must admit I do like Greggles - he does bring a lot of humour with it - any truth to the rumour he used to be a bingo caller!!!!!!!!!!! ? If the programme was say on for 2 hours between 0100 and 0300 all week with Greggles presenting it say Thursday through to Saturday and the fantastic young woman (don't know her name) Sunday through to Tuesday and then another presenter on Wednesday. The Wednesday presenter would then cover the other presenters whilst away, whilst either Greggles or the lady presenter cover the Wednesday presenter when they are away.
My ideal Night Time Line, then, would look like.....
0100 Quizmania - a Fremantle (Talkback/Thames) production
0300 Monday Kojak
Tuesday McCloud
Wednesday Quincy
Thursday Miami Vice
Friday Midnight Caller
Saturday Magnum pi

On the satellite channels the like of Quizmania etc pay the station for the time they're on-air, rather than the other way around.
Therefore it is the ultimate cheap filler, as far as the station is concerned equivalent to being paid by a shopping channel to broadcast.
I see no reason why ITV's contract will be any different. They don't have to bother making anything, pass programming over to QM for 3 hours in a night and get paid for the privilege.
I bet ITV wish they could do this all day long. What can be done more cheaply and with fewer staff -- selling your time to another company (so the only person involved day-to-day is a tx controller making sure the programme doesn't fall off the air) or a cheap film which needs to be bought in, edited, checked for compliance, broadcast and sold to advertisers?

People keep saying it's a "cheap" filler.
But, surely broadcasting a live programme is more expensive than televising random daytime repeat X or ancient film Y?

As has been advocated by many regular viewers of various quiz telly channels (and a fair few winners) - enter on the web, it's free.

Financially speaking it is........
60p a phone-call to phone-in on the quiz show - they DO NOT call back!!!!! - cheap sets, big prizes, crew all paid from phone-calls made.
Don't forget only a small selection of people do actually get through but EVERYONE who calls pays the 60p

But then they wouldn't make any money if everyone did that?
I think Quizmania is mildly entertaining for about 10 minutes but THREE HOURS of the thing every night is overkill. Anymore than 10 minutes is extremely repetitive.
Bring back God's Gift! Now that was classic Nighttime programming.

Ah, now, wouldn't THAT be good.
Sorry, but all the people who keep phoning up, 60p or a quid a go, deserve to be ripped off.
People keep feeding these monsters... and as people do, so they shall continue to grow.

This sort of thing is a perfect solution, and I'd hazard a guess that the only thing that's stopped it happening here (so far) is the regulator.

Bad news for Nightscreen fans - from Saturday Quizmania is extended to 5am, leaving only half an hour for "downtime".
The signed programmes should go out IN PLACE OF Quizmania on their allocated nights, not in addition to.

Maybe, just maybe, this will disappear when ITV Play launches later this year. Then again, we might get a simulcast of ITV Play overnight
Not that I'm particularly bothered - I find Greggles quite amusing to watch at 2am in the morning.
Going to bed with Greg Scott - now that is a disturbing thought!!
