It seems that no channel is safe from these 'quiz' shows which are all over Sky, as Quiz Mania will be broadcast overnight on ITV1 from 16th December...

Well it won’t be on Scotland everyday, as it will clash with regional programme like it 2 hour block for Gaelic on a Tuesday night, just for starter

According to Digi-Guide it is only on that night. What does the Christmas Radio Times say? Is it on once a week or a one-off at this stage? Thank you.

Why Chrismas Radio Times specifically? What about Christmas TV Times or any other listing magazine?

They seem to be creeping in everywhere - I notice FTN are doing Quiz Night Live everynight from 10pm-1am.

The one I've seen on Men and Motors is the worst - the presenter is so rude without any class what so ever!

RT is far more in-depth about programme, Newsreader's names ect and, well, just better.

Plus, it's doesn't have some chavy mother of 40 with her *exclusive*.

Unfortunately, it looks like this means these "quiz" channels are actually making a decent amount of money. They do indeed seem to be popping up all over the place.

Combined with the recent news of ITV1's Saturday night ratings, I really am starting to pity the modern-day television audience!

21st December- 0100
22nd December- 0055

I'll be taping a few just to see if the brilliant Greg Scott will be on as I miss him since he left price-drop.tv.

However, this website says that (as stated earlier) it will be commencing on the 16th December.

Presumably this is a reaction to the success of the gameshow marathon. What ITV are forgetting is that people tuned in to that show not for the quizzes, not for the old-time idents, but for nostalgia (which is always short-lived) and because Ant and Dec made it entertaining. It was essentially Ant and Dec doing their Saturday night takeaway act on a different programme. That's what brought in the figures - not some massive interest in quiz shows.

I must admit though out of all the ones to put onto ITV1, Quizmania is most probably the best one out there, due to it's presentation, it's presenters and the fact that it's made by fremantle media, owners of many companies including talkback thames and grundy.

Could it be that they're testing that audience for the possible launch of ITV Play next year?

That to me would make sense. But why they're not using Big Game TV is very strange seems as though it's appeared on ITV2 and 3 this past year.

Probably because of the very reasons you gave above. Some quiz channels are (and quite rightly so) getting a bad name. Big Game TV for one was intensely boring. Maybe ITV have wised up to he fact that Quizmania is different - it is actually entertaining, whether you want to ring in and spend your money or not. Not ALL these quiz channels are the same.

Personally, I'm looking forward to it. Would far rather watch the lovely Greg Scott than the man doing the sign language over on BBC1 when I get my usual insomnia!

So Quizmania is a bit more than "How many kilograms?" for 3 hours then?
