They claim the new show will use the same producers as The Mint, so hopefully it won't be a shoddy effort like ITV's Make Your Play.

And The Mint is the pinnacle of ITV broadcasting?

Of course not, but neither is Fremantle's Quizmania or Two Way's Play DJ. However, unlike those two shows, The Mint did offer something different initally and had good castings, with the pairings of Beverley French and Brian Dowling, alongside established quiz presenters Cat Porter and Craig Stevens.

Any of this rubbish is a pox upon broadcasting. I don't know anyone outside of an internet forum who likes this type of melarky.

The Mint soon left it's idea of z-list celebs and chat to concentrate on what matters to these programmes - getting the most money out of people. I also notice that The Mint's jackpot has gone from £100,000 to a car.

I can't see Play DJ lasting much longer when people realise you need to spend at least a tenner to get on the top ten leaderboard just for a 1 in 10 chance of winning £20.

How are people going to suddenly 'realise'? Its already right there in front of their faces. They also spend additional money on the chat txt too. I can see Play DJ taking over the whole channel. Its obviously very profittable.

How long before the channel just shows Play DJ and changes its name to the same?

I can't see it being that profitable if they can only give away £20 in prize money. My local fate has bigger prizes.

Do you think it would be more profitable if they gave away more money? How would that work?

More like it's a cheap filler to fill in to the end of ITV Play.

Why can't it be both? It can be cheap and profitable.

More people would text in if it were higher prize money like the other shows on ITV Play. Who, apart from 14 year olds (who shouldn't be playing anyway) would text a tenner worth of texts to play for a 1 in 10 chance of £20?

Whenever I have seen Play DJ the leaderboard is full, so thats at least ten people txting in to each game. The chat box is quite active too.

The Mint still has guests and a celeb booker in the form of Mint Extra presenter Alex Elliott, Cheryl Baker is in AGAIN this week.

The Vault prize of two cars is awful, but it does cut on costs.

I haven't seen ITV Playalong/Play DJ for some time now, but last I checked some guy called 'caitlinsdad' always seemed to be on the leaderboard, shame he (along with other saps) don't seem to get the message really.

It's a shame about the end of Quizmania, it is probably the only exception of the whole Quiz TV fad, as it gave a lot of viewer interaction to the programme rather more than just asking people to phone in and do nothing else. Shame to see it go, but at the end of the day it's all about the money, there's no denying that QM made a mint (sorry about the pun) for ITV, but I guess they want to keep the costs down and for themselves to make the show.

QM was a rather successful experiment for ITV to get into the Quiz TV market, I think it just proved a little too successful for ITV, considering the fact that nothing on ITV Play actually matches it. Granted no-one is expecting high quality BAFTA award winning shows on Play, but QM seemed to be different and took it's viewers more seriously.

Slightly OT, but from looking on MediaGuardian today it seems another phone-in channel has bit the dust, a station called Look4Love, seems to have had it's licence revoked by Ofcom for refusing to pay a £150,000 fine.

As for the future of ITV Play, who knows? With or without QM it seems to be making a fair bit of money and a nice profit, it could keep going for sometime. Although making over £10 Million per year for it's Freeview slot isn't going to be easy, and running a phone-in channel with a budget of next to nothing is going to be easier than a channel that could cost more to run and could make a loss. If ITV Play ever closes I'm sure it won't be an easy decision, especially from a Business point of view, whether Mr Grade's arrival at ITV towers will have an effect for now, I'm not sure.

Tonight is Tim's last night, the show started with "...tonight is my last night on this run of Quizmania" pre-title sequence. Flash is back tonight by the sound of things though.

Tim Lichfield opened the show by saying it was his "last ever show in this run of Quizmania" - implying that it's just a "series" ending.

Could that mean QM have (QM has ?) found a way of continuing sometime in the future, or is Tim just not very clever?

They were saying the same thing last night when Lee Baldry left. But I'm guessing they're not supposed to say on-air that they've been axed, so they're just covering their backs by saying it's the end of the "current series".

Lee Baldry used the same line about it being an end of a series last night when he was searching for the words to tell a caller who wasn't aware it was his last show. He seemed to think it up on the spot so perhaps it's their diplomatic way of saying ITV have scrapped the show.

Technically it is true though. The series simply hasn't been recommissioned past its current run.

Surely its possible that it could be picked up by another broadcaster??
