In my eyes, it is not unreasonable to expect the notion that the BigGameTV model is used by all Quiz TV, even ITV's Mint and Quizmania. And people like Greg Scott know about it but don't even have the balls to admit to it under duress of clauses in contracts and media world insider power (in other words fcuk up Quizmania and it'll be the last thing Greggles ever does.)

What right have these companies to hold guns to the heads of their staff when the people who pay their wages (the public) have a right to know how they operate?

The press is forever full of "leaks" from soap insiders, but leaks from quiz tv staff about working practices would be more deserving of the column inches. And, potentially electric.

Two things will happen as a result of this raid/report: either every caller is going to get through to the studio thus reducing income and result in these programmes being run at a serious loss, or the Quiz channels will carry on as normal and receive prosecutions for fraud.

You have to consider the costs in setting up a channel like this. You can either pay one person the minimum wage to sit at a control desk for 4 hours a night and push a button when the director tells him/her to when selecting a caller; or you can spend hundreds on a randomly-selecting telephone/computer system which will also incur electricity bills and runs the risk of malfunction. Also in order for the exorbitant prizes (£5000 +) to be awarded, plus costs of transmission, studio costs, cameras etc... and you need to employ the tactics used by BigGameTV.

Yes Alexia, you're absolutely right, because you've made your mind up that you are. There is nothing I can say to you, or others like you that will make you change your point of view.

Simple fact is (and I'm not, for one moment, singling out any one company), that in ANY line of business, you have the good guys, and the bad guys. I know that Quizmania is completely above board.

And as for taking more in calls than they pay out - reality check - it's a thing called "business". I'm not going to reply to any more "red rag" postings now; everyone is entitled to think what they like - I know, first hand, the truth about Quizmania - and I am more than happy to be a part of it.

It's a shame (if not shameful itself) that it's taken what, a couple of years, for the quiz scamming to finally be seriously investigated.
I mean, hasn't it always been obvious what lots of them have been doing ???

I do respect Greg for saying anything at all, and I believe that what he knows is what he says.

I agree however that the fundamental model of all these quiz formats is dodgy, and relies on 'harvesting calls' to generate the required revenue. This is regardless of whether the 'quota' is predetermined or regulated by some kind of manual or computer-driven system.

ie the point is, which I've found dodgy for a long time, is that each caller is not treated equally. ie your odds are not fixed odds because your liklihood of being randomly selected at any given time is skewed by the revenue-driven selection process.
If done fairly, I suspect most or all of the quiz formats would be incapable of operating at a profit. So be it !! Simple as that.

The public have no right to know how a private company operates, they aren't publicly accountable.

Would you publicly expose the company that pays your mortgage and feeds your children? That takes a lot of doing, especially in a small insular industry like TV

You would probably feel more comfotable doing it after you left; ie the guy featured in the BBC audio clip did that. (see link at the start of this thread)

But the fraud squad wouldn't be investigating BGTV for nothing. And if things really aren't above board, why should it be kept quiet?

Big Game TV are still broadcasting on their channel, the question tonight is "Name Songs with One Word Titles", there must be hundreds of those. This one ladder game with 8 answers will no doubt last all night.

So it remains to be seen whether The Daily Quiz will return to ITV Play now, or whether they don't want any association with Big Game TV.
