I thought they were listed, but I've been unable to get the English Heritage site to confirm that*. Surely if they were listed, there'd be a duty of care for the landlord to maintain them - and restore them, if they fell off?

According to the Camden.gov.uk link, the only listed building on Hawley Crescent is The Elephant House (I don't know the area so I really can't comment).

I can't find any reference that the now-MTV Studios building is listed, apart from the BBC News link. Camden's site has no record, the Heritage Gateway has no record. I'm beginning to wonder whether it is actually listed or not. Terry Farnell did win a Civic Trust Award - Commendation in 1985 for the building but that doesn't automatically make it listed.

It's not part of a conservation area is it?

According to a friend who works at MTV, the egg-cups aren't particularly popular there. Apparently they tried to get rid of them, but they're actually listed, so all they can do is hope they fall off of their own accord, which apparently is slowly happening, one by one.

I'm surprised they didn't lose a few in that big fire they had a few years ago.

I'm pretty sure that the big 'TVam' logos at either side of the frontage can't be removed either, hence they were covered up rather than removed

They are required to maintain them, they can't simply let them 'fall off' and forget about them. That's the problem with listed buildings (tell me about it, tsk! Rolling Eyes ) .

However, there was nothing stipulating that that had to be yellow and blue: which is probably why MTV have now painted them two shades of grey.

As you suggested, Spencer, even the large TVam logos at the ends of the frontage are deemed listed, and have simply been covered up by MTV.

The other day I noticed these two final images on an episode of KavanaghQC :

An excellent series, but where sadly the lead actor has actually has been dead since 2002 , yet the copyright is 2007:
