I've just looked at that chart. The closest Tiswas ever got to becoming networked was 5 Sep 1981 to 26 Dec 1981, during which time the only ITV region not showing it was Channel TV.

Channel never really open until midday even during that time!

Bearing in mind Channel was / is mainly a relay of Westward/TSW/TVS/Meridian, it's surprising Channel & their 'transmission partner' (for want of a better word?) never came to an arrangement over Channel starting earlier in the day, even if it ran as a 'ITV for the South West & Channel Islands' type service run from the mainland temporaily?

Didn't TVS's 'Late Night Late' run as a similar branded service?

Can't remember about the branding - but the TVS-branded trails that ran in Late Night Late often had small print about the Channel Islands ISTR.

The link into TV-am was not branded as Late Night Late, it used an unbranded clock and the announcer referred to the station as 'ITV in the South, South East and the Channel Islands'.

Some one has pointed out that TVS never used to broadcast the 5am ITN morning news, this would make since as Late night late finished at 3am until June 1988 when it was extended to 5am afterwards, ( There did take Night network which pushed it 4am close down at weekends) By 1991 Late night late was killed off and ITV nighttime from london was used.
