Oh right I thought the museum building was built in 1982, I didnt realise it was that old! On the episodes with the old set you can see some sort ofbuilding behind the viaduct, I will have to check on one of the my DVD's to see what it is.

hi jez, when i referred to the museum of science and industry i meant the actual building which according to their website was built in 1880
you are right about when the museum opened in that building which was 1983. although it had been on the site, in the former liverpool road railway station, since 1975
having done a bit of investigating my guess is the building behind the original viaduct is the 1830 warehouse on the museum site and not the main museum building, here is a link from the museum website showing a photo, you can match the roofline and the round windows in the apexes
http://www.msim.org.uk/Galleries.asp?menuid=874
now i feel a bit daft thinking it was the other building

Going back to the start of this thread (which was mainly about Kirkstall Road) I forgot to mention 'Through the Keyhole' is filmed here as well.
As for the Blockbusters site, that appeared on a random search of the web - much as in a 'my day at YTV' kind of blog.
Now for some mystery - on the original YTV film about the building of Kirkstall Road, it mentions '5 colour studios'.
OK, we know the following:
Studio 1 - Continuity (rarely used except for 'Good Morning Calendar'
Studio 2 - News Studio 'Calendar' etc.
Studio 3 - Network Production Studio
Studio 4 - Network Production Studio
Studio 5 - Hmm..... I always thought this was part of the OB set up, but I can't remember.
Since then:
Studio 1 - The new name for the Emmerdale Production Studio (Original gone)
Studio 2 - Gone, now network transmission - replaced by newcentre
Studio 3/4 - still there, even though Granada wanted to turn one into a tape store!
Studio 5 - ?

Is the confusion anything to do with the news centre not actually being in the main studio block but across the link road in the production office site?

Negative. We're talking 1968 here, not 1990. I think you can buy the film from YTV. Listen carefully to the middle portion of the film. The VO says "five colour studios".
The newscentre was converted in 1990 from a former Ice Rink, next door.

Is that the one with the newsroom backdrop? Was that a real newsroom?
N3 was originally a small self-contained studio, then its back wall was removed to allow the national newsroom (at the time on the 6th floor in spur) to be seen. Then when this went out of fashion, when the blue cut glass corporate look was introduced, the back wall was re-built again.
So - yes this had a newsroom backdrop, and yes it was the real newsroom. (Unfortunately the Nine O'Clock News was the only long network bulletin to use the newsroom backdrop, and by then most people had gone home, so it could look rather empty. AIUI They used to ask people to sit in the "in vision" seats if they were still there...)

N3 was also used, minus the backwall, as the "acquarium" studio for the post-flying fish fingers 9 O'Clock News and daytime summaries I believe. It no longer exists.

Yes and no. Unlike N24 there is nothing behind them but a screen, however the image displayed is totally CGI there is no real place like that, the regions will use a real camera shot rather than a fake image.

The current BBC One News bulletins use three projectors in the news studio to create a "newsroom" backdrop. The video that fills these projectors is a computer graphic rendered newsroom image, not a real newsroom. The original beige studio (with the double barrel desk) with a newsroom backing had two projectors. One was fed with a live newsroom camera, the other with a delayed and mirror-image version of the same view.
This was replaced with a graphicised version when the area previously shot live was blocked as a result of the W12 bomb.

I presume that's the left hand projector screen and thje image has been flipped as the writing is the right way round in a mirror.
