My spy at Calendar South tells me that Granada Media is spending a lot of money at Kirkstall Road. No doubt wrapped up with the development in Manchester. Don't forget that it is now called the Leeds Studios.

Yes, well I guess that the chevron is never to return to the front of the building at Kirkstall Road again, after it mysteriously "blew" off 2 years ago. How long before the words "Yorkshire Television" blow off similarly in favour of "The Leeds Studios" ?

Nice to see the chevron visible in the satellite image of Kirkstall Road from maps.google.co.uk...

The chevron remains outside of the Calendar South offices in Sheffield. The powers-that-be have probably forgotten its there (the office as well as the chevron).

Does anyone know the layout of the "Leeds Studios"? I guess the main studio (used for 321 etc) is at the back. It looks like there's a studio at the front just to the right and behind the entrance. Where abouts was presentation based?

Apparently the northern playout centre is what was Studio 2

I know Northern presentation comes from there, and the archives for the ITV group are now based there too

All regional ITV continuity now comes from the NCU in London at the London Studios (LWT).

Not long, it happened down at LWT, it was LWT with the LWT logo, now it's The London Studios with a new logo. The canteen is quite nice.

Thanks Steve. But why does it need a whole studio to occupy a playout centre? What's in it exacltly? And whereabouts would Redvers et al have hung out in the old days?

Not sure, and I don't know what size studio it was previously, it could have been a glorified broomcupboard for all I know. But it's where all of the northern regions have their ads and some continuity inserted and local programmes played out.

Slightly off topic but still on about television studios:
Why are some studios at the BBC titled with an N (eg. N6, NCool but others are titled with a TC (eg. TC7) and is there a N7 or is TC7 N7?

I was reading Ally McCoist's column in the "Daily Record" last Friday and he stated that "today is the day I'm in London recording A Question of Sport". I always understood that this was recorded at Granada in Manchester under the agreement made between the beeb and Granada when the studio at Oxford Road was closed. Is that no longer the case?

It's been in London for many years now, possibly since the studios at Oxford Road closed

The archives for ITV would take up a heck of a lot of space, it includes the feature films formally owned by Carlton as well as 50 years of ITV programmes.

Mind you, I'm not sure if they're all in he same place, 'Granada' (i.e. ITV) library sales are handled by ITN

AIUI QoS is shot in both London and Manchester. When in Manchester it is done at the Granada site using the Granada/BBC joint venture 3sixty facilities, and in London it normally comes from TV Centre.

It has certainly been recorded in Manchester since Oxford Road lost its major network studios (and was just left with the small Studio D)
