I think they'll go with a female captain, and I think Alex Scott would be a good choice. Also I think Colin Jackson would make a good team captain. Not sure about hosting duties, but I'd like to see Colin Murry given a go.

Colin Murry is a good presenter and writer (his column in the "Metro" is well worth reading) but I wonder if Quest will allow him to present both AQOS and the EFL coverage?

Why wouldn’t they?

Well my thinking is that Quest may feel he would be perhaps inject a bit of irrelevance into sports (which is not a bad thing sometimes) whereas at the same time presenting a serious-ish programme on the EFL.

I don’t really understand this. Colin does have that bit of irreverence in his style which is part of the reason Quest and Channel 5 before them would selected him for their coverage of the EFL.

Presenters being exclusive to one broadcaster doesn’t really happen these days and it would be even less of a problem with him hosting what’s essentially an entertainment show.

I don’t get the impression that’s the direction the BBC are going though with QOS. But he would be a pretty good choice.

They'd probably choose someone like Claire Balding.

To be honest I think Claire’s star has dwindled a bit since the mid 2010s. And as has been said Claire would be change for changes sake with a middle aged, middle class, white woman being replace with one that’s slightly younger. If they were going to go down that route it would be Logan. But it doesn’t seem like they are.

It looks like it’ll be someone like an Alex Scott, Jermaine Jenas or Isa Guha who are emerging sports broadcasters that would help diversify the line up.

Colin presents Fighting Talk - an irreverent sports quiz - on 5 Live every Saturday morning, live, before heading off to Quest, so they are certainly fine with it.

That said, I suspect his association with FT will rule him out, not due to scheduling reasons just as he is very much associated with another sports quiz

With the greatest respect to Sue Barker, she isn't middle aged and Clare Balding is 15 years younger so they aren't entirely the same.

I don't think many posts on Television Forum have cited The Lancet before, but the following defines midlife as 45-65, the age range both Clare Balding and Sue Barker fall into.

Lancet article here ……..

Their TV personas are fairly middle aged, and not 'young and edgy', if that's where they were going

Excellent. I thought I'd missed my opportunity to have a mid-life crisis, but no, there's still time ! Thumbs up
