Not Ore Oduba, please! Only just getting over his omnipresence for the past couple of years since his Strictly win.

Don’t understand this hate for Ore. I think he’s a very capable and likeable presenter. I also don’t think he’s done that much apart from a gameshow and the occasional cover shift on This Morning and The One Show.

He seemed to be a guest on almost every panel or gameshow on TV for a solid few months. He may be capable and likeable, but just like a fair few other people I could mention, there is a complete over-saturation of them on certain shows/channels. Get some new faces on TV, bring in some new blood, stop using the same handful of presenters/guests on everything.

Names like Gabby Logan and Dan Walker are safe, BBC faces and I can see why people are guessing they’ll be in line for the job. If Sue was just leaving of her own accord and nothing else was changing, yes they’d be a good bet. But I’d be very surprised (and annoyed TBH) if they’ve axed Sue to replace her with someone just as BBC and “safe”. If they really are shaking up the programme, and have given Sue the boot in order to give the programme a new start, the host (and captains) need to be fresh and different to what’s gone before..

Exactly they haven't axed safe to replace it with the same

Exactly this. And in today’s climate you certainly don’t axe Sue Barker - who’s in a less represented category being a female over a certain age - to replace her with Dan Walker.

Alex Scott is definitely the right kind of person they should be targetting for the host job

The big mistake has been retaining Dawson and Tufnell for so long, the team captains used to reflect recently retired sports people. These two have long outstayed that. The host role is fine with Barker though.

There was tabloid speculation about Jermaine Jenas being the eventual successor to Lineker’s throne. An idea which actually sounded quite good to me, with that in mind him taking on hosting duties might be a good way for him to progress.

Matt Dawson, just seemed a bit dull. Phil Tufnell was obviously chosen because he has a bit of a personality. But I guess they only way they could get rid of Sue without her living up to her name was to have a complete overhaul.

I also think there is a possibility of going down the League of their own route and having comedians on the show maybe not as captains but as regulars.

They did the Saturday version a few years back with Jason Manford which wasn't too bad. Personally though I think going back to making it primarily a decent sports quiz is the best way to move forward - make it more like Question of Sport, not League of their Own.

The thought of it morphing into a League of their Own mk2 leaves me cold. The critical issue with the programme being pure sports based, which I'd love to see again is the cost of clip rights. It was fine when the BBC had rights left right and centre, now the cost of clips must be a factor for the programme now. We'll see how this plays out.

Didn't Phil get the QOS gig after he was likeable during his stint on I'm a Celebrity?

QOS used to be a gentle sports trivia quiz.
They Think it’s All Over was the show I would say would be closer to A League of their Own.

Yes, that's a good point, although some come under fair use and I'd have thought it would be in Sky's interest to co-operate so they get access to the fewer, but bigger, events the BBC may have.

I've not seen too many people critical of this decision compared to other recent axings - it does feel like it probably is overdue. Hopefully too a new team might see the BBC schedulers show it a little bit of love once again.

When Ally McCoist left, there was almost a whole season of guest captains, including Tuffers who did seem the most natural fit. I remember Jamie Redknapp and Darren Gough (again, just after his Strictly stint) were regulars as well.

Laura Davies was always good as a guest captain when subbing for JP or Detroit, but doubt she’d do it now. Could we possibly have a series (or half) of guest captains to see who would fit in well?

I can see the replacements for Dawson & Tufnell being one of Alex Scott, Micah Richards, Peter Crouch or Chris Stark (as the Peter Crouch podcast seems to be the in-thing with the BBC at the moment) or Sam Quek. Though Michael Vaughan seems to be the Beeb pundit of choice these days (despite not being a great pundit or coming across as particularly likable) so I wouldn't be surprised if he was a new team captain.

As for presenter - I can see them going down a young route. Ore Oduba & Dan Walker seem obvious names to suggest but I could see it being somebody like Greg James instead, a well-known, well liked face who has covered sport a bit over the years.
