I was making some caps from DVDs for my website when I came across this brief clip of the ITV1 logo which brought me to the question, does ITV1 have a generic ident?

There obviously was one created because UTV have adapted it to create a generic ident of their own:

It's definitely not the ITV1 breakbumper because if you look at the ray of light thingy below the logo it is different from the breakbumper.

Anyone have any insight?

Yes, they do (though I'm not sure if it's ever been used on air).

It's essentially the break bumper, but the 'spotlight' pointing down on the logo slowly rotates around it. I think it's a minute long.

I guess we'll have to wait for a 'moment of national reflection' or the Queen's Christmas speech before we get to see it.

The version that UTV have adapted is very short, only about 10 seconds, if even that. They only ever use theirs if they haven't left enough time to show one of the main idents. I wonder if the ITV1 version has a soundtrack or is silent?

When Dead Ringers on BBC2 mock ITV1, they use and itv1 ident similar to the above and it's long. Not sure if it is mocked as it looks quite realistic compared to their attempts at Channel Four.

Mainly because they don't like running their idents as long as ITV/STV do, meaning - for example - when network and STV have a 15 second ident, UTV will have a 10 second trailer and then a 5 second ident.

I believe it was used by Channel TV, just after the rebrand, before they had a chance to adapt their regional idents
Although they of course had “Channel” underneath the ITV1 logo

Is it me or is the Dead Ringers version slower to animate than the real one ?

I think the Dead Ringers one is just a rip of the breakbumper, hence why it is slow to animate on screen, compared to the normal ITV1 breakbumper.
