Dear Asa,

I think your website is excellent and think that you put a lot of hard work into updating the content. I was wondering if you have ever had any difficulty with the broadcasters about use of logo's, screen grabs, mp3's etc.  I know the BBC have a tendency to come down heavy on fansites and there content.  My website is currently in production and I have to admit to being a bit nervous about the use of broadcasters material.  Does an acknowledgement of the copyright generally cover you in this area ?  Any comments would be gratefully appreciated.

I dont think they can do anything unless you personally make a profit from the site. Keep the ads at bay and you'll be okay.

Firstly, thanks for your comments about TV Home!

Regarding copyright law, well as mentioned above, stay away from any profit making banner ads and you'll be fine.
Their is a clause called the 'Fair Use Law' which allows people to use certain copyright content providing they present it in a good light and don't make any money from it.
I did once have Channel 5 contact me regarding use of their clips back in the days of the 'UK Television' website but they were happy with my response and explanation.
I know the Beeb normally have a go at fansites but until you see www.bbc.co.uk/idents, I think this site and many more will be okay!
So don't worry about it - the only thing that annoys me is seeing content from TV Home appear on other sites without asking. I know they're not my clips to say where they can and can't be shown but it's just annoying after taking all the time to capture, edit, encode and include on the site. One example of this is if you head to http://members.tripod.co.uk/curtyio/ where someone took a lot of my pictures and clips of the time (and even the old UKTV web design) and uploaded it to their site - apart from the actual Real Media clips (which are dead links anyway!)

Cheers,
Asa

Goodness, that site is an exact replica of your old one! They've even used your font which expands when the mouse goes over it! Unbelievable!

Thanks Asa that's sorted a few concerns out for me. That website, what a cheek and so blatant ! They didn't even make a very good job of producing a copy of your website.

Asa,

I have another question for you. Last week you said you'd upload the BBC World Advert Filler with the Weather music. I was just wondering when you were going to do it. Also, have you got my e-mails yet? - Sorry, just got it!!

Hi Rob.
I replied about five minutes ago to your message and in the thread about that new weather BBC World advert filler theme, I said it had replaced the current BBC World 2min30secs advert filler and can be downloaded on the BBC World page.

Cheers,
Asa

I remember you mentioning that on MHP Chat, Asa. Did they actually ever ask you to remove anything in the manner that Alpha asked me to remove their BBC2 ident copies?

Great, thanks Asa. I'll download it now. I've just sent you the regional news clips so they should be there soon!
