I know on BBC One they arent showing any d.o.g's but you would think BBC News 24 would show the 'LIVE' symbol.

The LIVE DINGO was not used because the program was being recorded for later transmission on BBC2. It would look odd with 'LIVE' pasted everywhere on a recording.

I thought that they could record a copy of the programme without the live bug. They do it for interviews they want to play out later, Why could they not have done this?

I thought the BBC had a machine that got rid of DOG's etc on pre recorded footage.

PS: Is that what the live thing is called - a dingo? So, we've got DOG'S & DINGO'S now have we? Lol.

I'm actually more surprised that no-one spotted the fact that there was no sound for mono listeners rather than NICAM for the first two minutes of transmission on BBC1!
Was this anything related to the fact Newsround yesterday had no sound (or barely any sound - very quiet and jittery) on DSat? Analogue was fine. I was expecting them to cut back to CBBC but not even an apology - no sound at all during the programme!

Possibly yes, but not sure. I think the phase error occured in DNC1, so digital services rather than anaolgue would be affected

It is possible to have a recording without the DINGO as MikeG rightly says, but it's not a machine that strips it, the VT machine looks at the vision mixer before the DSK's, i.e. before any DINGO's or Astons are keyed. But as they would have wanted any Astons that were transmitted to also be recorded, the LIVE DINGO was not transmitted because this would have been recorded also

Hmm... I think I am right in saying that programmes can be recorded in News 24 with astons AND the live dingo, with astons and not the live dingo, and with no astons OR live dingo. (It all depends which output of the mixer you record)

However on such an important broadcast it would be important for the programme to be able to continue if the vision mixer died and an emergency mixer were used - this would require no live or astons to be used if a clean recording were still required...

Also - though this was done by BBC News to most viewers on BBC One it would have looked pretty much like a BBC Events programme and they never use live dingos or astons over the core coverage.

Normally BBC Events dept cover most royal events on BBC One/Two - but given the short term nature of BBC One's decision to broadcast the QMs Birthday they were probably not able to arrange coverage facilities and camera access in time.

(BBC News 24 has carried the Queen Mum's birthday events live most years. It certainly carried her 98th and 99th)

So did Philip Hayton present all the BBC ONE bulletins or just the lunchtime one?

No, all the rest were done by Matthew Amroliwala. Philip was probably just filling in for Matthew at Lunchtime, as Matthew was on News 24 from 11am-1pm.

Hmmm.. noggin, you know you're right! ha ha Smile Programme was being recorded at other locations as well as News. The others can only pick up MAIN, CLEAN or DOGless easily. Because of this, and the fact that it was a graded programme, the editorial decission wass made not to put up LIVE
