Why not? You mean they can't have an aston on the bottom saying something like 'Queen Mother is dead' at the bottom? Sky News did with Diana's death.

At the bottom of the screen it said something like 'Diana, Princess of Wales has been killed in a car crash in Paris'.

Slightly OT: Does anyone remember some channels closing down whe Diana died and saying turn over to a news channel. Or is it just me?

I'm sure it'll be a major news event and there'll be a BBC One/News 24/World simulcast using special black astons etc... as for today, they probably just didn't want to ruin the nice picture with a 'live' bug as it was basically all outside broadcast.

I think the reason that it may not have been listed in the Radio Times is perhaps they were preparing for the worst - it would have been embarassing to have her birthday celebrations listed when, in fact, they may have been broadcasting her death! - it was well done to have it listed at the last minute, so that they couldn't be accused of being insensitive.

Am I the only one who thinks people on here think the Queen Mum is going to drop off her perch soon. No one knows when someone will die. Last year, they advertised the pageant to mark her 100th birthday - she could've easily died then but they still listed it!

Please be a little bit more sensitive, eh folks?

And no, I'm not the Queen Mum's No 1 fan but I think this talk of upcoming death is rather sick.

I'm sure she wouldn't mind. She knows all the News organisations have been rehersing their coverage for many years and thet many of her friends have been interviewed about her life. I gather she has even planned all the details of the funeral herself and was rather miffed when all her detailed plans were usurped for Dianas funeral.

She is 101 so it's not as if she has much more time left.

I tend to agree with you - I also think she could well outlive Prince Philip who has been looking increasingly frail. However let's not start another debate on that!

Just to point out. All of the TV networks do rehearse events such as these and all have tapes of reports prepared many months in advance and updated all of the time.
The reports will actually be updated on Monday because of today's birthday.

Has Sky's coverage, the middle file doesn't work because I haven't finished the page yet but the other two files (which are the most important ones) do work.

All of the networks used breaking news graphics during Diana's death - although they were removed when the BBC stopped taking BBC World at 6am.

All of the BBC services will join together should the Queen Mother die. Including the overseas networks. Radio will launch into their own programming.
Sky will broadcast Sky News on every Sky branded channel and request that an aston be added to the rest informing people of the death.
ITV, 4 and 5 will all do their own thing.

You would find Sky being broadcast on Fox News and CBS. The BBC being broadcast on ABC and ITN being broadcast on NBC.
CNN would certainly do their own thing.

The US networks would rush their main anchors over to London and broadcast their evening news programmes from there.

And don't forget Princess Margaret, she can't go on much longer.

I know on BBC One they arent showing any d.o.g's but you would think BBC News 24 would show the 'LIVE' symbol.

The LIVE DINGO was not used because the program was being recorded for later transmission on BBC2. It would look odd with 'LIVE' pasted everywhere on a recording.

When BBC TV Networks (1 or 2) take News24 at any time other than the scheduled overnight simulcast, they take it DOGless.

I'm actually more surprised that no-one spotted the fact that there was no sound for mono listeners rather than NICAM for the first two minutes of transmission on BBC1! Everything is monitored in stereo throughout the network chain these days. Unfortunately one of the legs was out of phase and cancelled out the sound. You wouldn't necessarily spot this by listening to stereo or monitoring the needles on pre-transmission checks.

Westminster Abbey & the relevant military personnel rehearse the necessary procedures for a funeral everytime there is anything significant concerning the health of the Queen Mother. Apparently they get quiet bored of it they have practised it so often recently.

I can't see Dan Rather coming over to anchor coverage of the death of Princess Margaret or CBS/FOX etc dedicating their whole day's coverage towards the death of a Royal hardly heard about abroad.

I did notice this, but as I was trying to watch BBC One, News 24 and SM:TV Live at the same time, I wasn't sure of the full details.

Anyone see the highlights programme just started on BBC Two? We have the N24 sting which faded into a side-on view of N6, facing the video screen and Matthew walks around the desk and perches himself on the second desk (the one which the sports presenter uses).

Is this what the morning summaries is going to be like?!

Cheers, Asa
