The Queen paid a visit to the ITN headquarters today - and went into the ITN News Channel studio whilst Rachel McTavish was presenting live! Look out for the report on ITN, it's being shown every half an hour at 25 and 55 minutes past, just before the weather. It shows a rare glimpse of the studio and of what the presenter sees whilst presenting! It looks really good from the side, certainly a cool desk.

Rachel looked very excited when she came in, but had to carry on presenting as normal!

I wonder if the Queen sneaked up on Rachel McTavish and did the 'rabbit ears' gesture?

I'd like to see that!

From the Press Association:

QUEEN GETS UPDATE ON HUNT FOR BIN LADEN
By Anita Singh, PA News
The Queen was given a personal update on the hunt for Osama bin Laden live from Afghanistan today as she toured the ITN headquarters.
Newsreader Sir Trevor MacDonald escorted her around the building as she learned how ITV news programmes were put together.
She was introduced to reporter Tim Ewart via videophone from Afghanistan, where he gave her the latest news from the front line.
The Queen listened intently as he described the latest developments in the hunt for the world's most wanted man and the current situation in the city of Kandahar.
Later she chatted to lunchtime news anchor John Suchet moments before he went on air and watched as the bulletin went out live.
She was shown around the channel's virtual reality studio by presenter Dermot Murnaghan, who explained how reporters walked around on a plain green background which was transformed by computer graphics when it appeared on television
screens.
The Queen watched on a giant monitor as he strolled around a virtual reality House of Commons and took Tony Blair's seat on the front benches.
Murnaghan raised a smile from the Queen when he pointed out that wearing green was forbidden for presenters because it made all but their faces disappear into the background - her outfit was an almost identical colour.
The Duke of Edinburgh was also at the ITN headquarters in Holborn, central London and he toured other parts of the building in the company of glamorous newsreaders Katie Derham and Mary Nightingale.
He joined up with the Queen later to pay an impromptu visit to ITN's 24 hour news channel studio.
Presenter Rachel McTavish managed to maintain her composure and keep reading the news despite the presence of the royal couple behind the camera.

On a walkabout in the newsroom the Queen was shown footage of her visit being edited on a computer screen moments after it was filmed.
She chatted to Tom Bradby _ soon to be ITV's new Royal correspondent _ about injuries he received while reporting from East Timor.
She also inquired about Andrea Catherwood, the reporter injured in Afghanistan by a Taliban fighter who blew himself up with a hand grenade yards from where she was stood.
Sir Trevor said afterwards: 'The Queen was terribly interested in the way our films were edited. We showed her footage of her touring the building and she was amazed at the speed of its arrival on the screen seconds after it was taken. She asked about the injuries that Tom Bradby and Andrea Catherwood had
sustained and she observed that it is becoming increasingly dangerous to become a journalist.'

Hasn't she also visited the Eastenders set?

Blimey, ITV News and Eastenders? I wonder something.

Is the Queen planning a hostile takeover of Ardent Productions?

it was all happening at itn this morning lol! - on 5 news, Rob butler said, 'the cheers you can hear arent for that interview, the queen has just arrived here at itn' and then at the end of the show he said, 'im off to catch a glimpse of the queen'

then on central, the announcer said excitedly 'good afternoon, your watching carlton on the royal day of broadcasting' (or something like that) - then john suchet told us the queen had been in a few minutes earlier, and there was a report on it after:

She was in the Blue Peter studio today too - all the current team were there, and so were Val Singleton, Peter Purves, John Leslie, Margaret Parnell and a few others. Simon Thomas gave her a gold Blue Peter badge and told her it would get her into the Tower Of London for free!

She went to Classic FM as well, I think.
