ahhhh..the old days of puffin's pla(i)ce...just thinking about magic circules and what was his name tony warren scott or something...

we here at home have noticed oscar has a chipped beak..i wonder if they have spares!!!! also we have noticed the camera shot has changed, you can see more to the side of kevin, maybe to make more room for lisa (who is getting better and better).

And they have a compertition to meet girls aloud and mark owen!! nice little graphics and what seems like a promo which went out at 5pm instead of the live show..i only wished citv started later so there could be more time for their show..

Yes, or even that ITV began to regard cITV again as a chance to brand and associate with its young audience, rather than just as a PSO to be funded as cheaply as possible.

Looking at the public pronouncements of what used to be the Network Centre, ITV are clearly phased-out by their dilatory performance from 1700 to 1900. Surly, this is in part because the 5pm to 6pm hour is where kids viewing ramps-off into the shoulder-peak. This is one of those times when generations come together, very possibly on the kids terms. (Well actually in our household all viewing is on the kids terms.)

I know that times have changed, and kids are now street-wise, but in my childhood "Birthday Club" was much derided, but actually must-see television, it drew a huge proportion of the available audience to ITV. There was even a regional pre-school programme. As an 8 year-old, if you were in an argument or fight, the absolute heaviest insult that could be levelled at your opponent, guaranteed to make them totally apoplectic was "you watch Romper Room!" . Well guess what? - 7, 8, 9 year olds - we all seemed to know what Romper Room was!

What an awful rant. OK, but my point is, cITV from Birmingham, or wherever its going to be from was ok as a reaction to cBBC in the 90s when it was presented by the animal thing (Otis?). If ITV are going to be serious about Kids TV, then surly its all about loyalty and involvement, bit like a radio station? You use any device, even desperate ones. This means having cITV structured, so that local continuity can come in at appropriate junctions, in whatever areas where the case can be justified. At the moment his probably only applies Channel, but could mean SMG and UTV, and even clearly definable areas like Westcountry or Anglia, or even Meridian East..

These types of productions are so cheap, almost running on marginal cost, and do have the capacity to attract sponsorship. If it weren't for the economic problems (caused by Bruxelles) of the Channel Islands milk industry, then presumably Oscar would still be sponsored by real Jersey Ice Cream .

We want Gus Honeybun that was the figurehead ofr Westward Tv and then TSW in the South West. In fact, bring back Westward.... and get rid of this bland rubbish that purports to be "regional" ITV in the South West.

Get this, was clearing out my cupboard of books to find stuff i could put in my Record of Achievement for my job application, and came across a book called "THE OSCAR PUFFIN BOOK" published by "CTV Publications" in 1987. Who'd of thought it!? Shame the book is crap lol

Can you immagine a modern politically correct, street-wise Sarf London version of that? They could probably record it at Southwark College, Miss Rosalind could be the probation offficer..

Very Happy Local in-vision continuity in the right places, radical and welcome (except to corporate accountants)!

Does anyone sponsor it now? I think that JDK has a good point about sponsorship of local branding initiatives.

did anyone see lisa present Puffin's Pla(i)ce this weekend???

..i thought she was really good..as a father of 2 girls... and they liked her..given time i think she would be a good replacement for kevin...i still think he is going to move on somewhere....i also think their shows together are fun if sometimes a little crazy..shame they dont have a bigger studio it looks really cramped..

Oscar still has a chipped bill though...and i want harry to have some clothes...sounds odd i know!!!

Also kevin was at a huge pop concert in guernsey and my best friends family went over and said that he got a great response..they did a comp for a winner to go back stage with kevin to interview the stars and meet them and that they are planning a special programme for saturdays show!!.....doing a good service to all the islands...not bad for a local kids birthday show!!...

puffins plaice does sound very fab.

it makes you wonder why central don't get the CITV presenters to come on a couple of minutes earlier once a week to read out midlands birthday cards. would surely go down nicely with OFCOM if central produced an "extra" live programme, targeted at an under-served demographic (in regional terms anyway).

bet it'd be cheaper than sending out a film crew and employing an editor to produce lifeline too.

One wonders how many viewers Puffins Pla(i)ce actually gets, and how many of those view it from the mainland.

with all the hellabaloo...with simply the best (which i thought was a good show) Oscar and kevin nearly stole their thunder with a great Puffin's Pla(i)ce...they did a backstage special at a huge summer pop concert with some young boy who won the comp...had interviews with all the acts including some nice moments with mark owen comming across as a real genuine nice person..it was well editied with split screens and funky music..plus a huge ovation for kevin doing a oscar chant with the crowd of at least 8 thousand!!!...great stuff...though he didnt have enough time to do the birthdays..also said they got sent to the wrong place...

GIVE THEM A HALF HOUR SHOW CHANNEL...SIMPLY THE PUFFIN!!!

and Oscar's beak has been fixed!!!..amazing how the showbiz nip and tucks work!..now we just need to get harry some clothes!!!...

For once Oscar seems to be getting the time slot he deserves this week. Puffin's Pla(i)ce actually started at 3.05pm today so the programme lasted the full 10 minutes rather than about 6 or 7 usually!.

Due to this long slot they played the rarely seen long opening titles at the start as well.

or at least 20 minutes, back in 1990 CTV's puffin's pla(i)ce was only 5mins but they increased it to 10mins.
