One thing I've noticed flicking around the regions is the apparent lack of public service announcements (not-for-profit free adverts) and Crimestoppers programmes and the like.

Tyne Tees still show these all the time. YTV does as well, although noticably less 'Community Link's (with intro nicked from TTTV!!!) seem to be shown there.

I've not seen any of these things on the other stations. *Surely* TTTV and YTV can't be the only stations left still committed to them?!?

HTV (West) still have them. Always before or after HTV News, Crimestoppers too!

Years ago Central (as it was then called) had such things. They were called Community Service Announcement s.

I think it was around the time that Carlton were making their first tentative moves on Central that CSA s disappeared. The closest thing we have nowadays is called Life Line , presented by Ann Dawson (CNsouth presenter).

Carlton (Central) also do something called Business Breaks for small midlands businesses who can't afford a full TV advertising campaign. The idea is to show a painfully cheaply made advert only once ever.

The advert is shown within a 16:9 area of the screen, but the overall thing is in 4:3 because where the black bars would be is instead a swirly orange background.

The very short ad is sandwiched between a standard intro and ending. Intro: Simple gil sans Business Breaks logo on aforementioned orange background, which fills the whole screen before 16:9 shaped ad appears. Accompanied by voiceover: ''Business Breaks from Carlton'' or something like that. End: after ad disappears, full BB postal address appears in centre of orange screen. Voiceover doesn't read out address. Instead says something like ''An initiative from Carlton, in association with The Prince's Trust and Business Link''.

Thing is, I've been watching Border, STV, Grampian and UTV quite a bit and haven't seen anything on any of em. I never saw one on Central either when I lived in Nottingham (as reported here as well) and I can't say I've seen one on Anglia or London either.

So apart from YTV, TT, Granada and HTV, who else has them? I always thought they were mandatory for each ITV company, I must have been wrong, hence this thread.

And the same for Crimestoppers. I recall Mancunians laughing at Tyne Tees for having a Crimestoppers campaign, can't think why as it's a good thing.

HTV west do NOT have any community messages anymore they finished about amonth ago to fall in line with the rest of the Carlton stations - the onlt thing htv west have left is a crimestoppers which im sure carlton intend to phase out

I saw one on Anglia over the summer before a late-night regional programme. I saw a Crimestoppers on HTV Wales on Monday too still with the dun-dun-dunn-dunnn-dunnnnnn music! Though we're not so privileged here in the South East, I suppose the nearest we have is Christmas Line but I don't know if that's still going.

Do Carlton London's community shows Your Shout and Carlton City Survival Guide and Meridian's Three Minutes count as community programming?

STV Grampian still do community Sevice Announcements.
STV call them 'Box 2000' or something like that.

Did anyone see STV's surreal weather forecast last night, a sort of 3D flythrough of Scotland with realistic mountains etc. Quite over the top i thought.

Notice though that Tyne Tees also mention all their community announcements on their website, and how many other regions actually stream the Crimestopper videos on their website.

Also notice TTTV is now streaming all their News Reports via their website!! How many regions do that!!!?

...all this, and yet Granada are promoting ITV.com!!!Confused
