Lonely Water, and anything to do with Trains, or kids having horrific accidents of any description.
I also remember some really scary ones for Rabies and Foot & Mouth. Oh god, and that one with the kid running on the beach and it freeze-frames just before they step on a big sharp bottle.
Thanks, I'm going to have nightmares now....

I remember the one where we see a couple toddle off to bed for the night. We see the lights go off in their lounge and the camera focuses in on that plug socket which is well overloaded.
It starts sizzling.
The next shot we see is from outside the house and the flames shooting up from within.
Well grim, that one.

The mid-1970's "Protect and Survive" were frightening! (Though they were never shown on television). Along with most of the PIFs from the 1970's, that "Keep Matches Away From Children" one was indeed shocking.
On a side note, did anyone else notice that on an NHS stop smoking ad around two years ago that the same woman from that PIF (Colleen) popped up on a Lloyds Pharmacy ad? Talk about using real people, never mind the fact that the "Colleen died two weeks after this film was made" text was added at least a month after the ad was first shown.

I agree, as soon as I saw this thread I thought of "Protect & Survive". Even though (thankfully) they were never shown for real I'm sure C4 or BBC TWO showed them as part of a documentary in the 70s or early 80s and they scared the $hit out of me.........especially since Reagan had his "ever so slightly mad" finger on the nuclear button at the time

The Protect and Survive one is bloody terrifying! I've only ever seen it on TV-Ark but i couldn't imagine how i'd feel if i saw that on TV today. It was very grim, and even the sound effects and music were scary!

The live action version of 'The House That Jack Built'.
In retrospect, hardly frightening at all, but seeing it for the first time as a seven year old caused me to refuse to go to bed for a month unless everything was unplugged. Most annoying for my parents at six in the evening!

I notice they've brought the 'big turkey' PIF back from last year. Isn't the woman in that Laurel from Emmerdale?

Saw the latest Drink/Drive campaign in the cinema today, and I had to put my fingers in my ears because I've seen it on television and in the cinema the horrifying sounds are amplified!
Horrid, some guys are drinking and eyeing up this girl, and then suddenly she just recoils as though being run over and smashes her head into the ground. It's really quite sickening, and it takes a lot to scare me.
