What do you think constitutes as a misleading advert?
What do you think constitutes as an offensive advert?
Do we need protecting from these misleading and offensive advert?
Is the ASA (advertising standards authority) effective at protecting us?

Any replies to my query will be very greatful, detailed replys will be brilliant
thanks

Are you taking a media studies course?
Do you have a project along the lines of "Advertising Standards - discuss"?
In your ideal world, are you going to write even a word of it?
Would you like to tell us what you think [detailed replies would be brilliant]?

Im completing a study into how affective the ASA is and part of that is finding out what the public think, which is why i have posted these questions!

Well, if that is what you are doing - be honest and tell us about it.

Also tell us what you think; show an interest and some knowledge and you might get a better response.

Well to be quite blunt you'll need more than the TVF members to constitute "the public". Sure you can research stuff on the net about the ASA but have you any ads in mind that you think need discussing?

We are not "the public". We are a discussion group here to look at TV presentation.

Get off your backside and interview people in the street.

And the word you are looking for is "effective", not "affective". They are quite different things.

Why do kids believe that the internet will do their work for them?

I'm enraged.

Believe it or not, not every student uses the internet to do their work for them... as part of my research i was asked to post a message on a forum to find out peoples view on certain issues concerning the study i am completing for my A level exam. I am not using this site to do my work for me! I am using what i thought would be a valuable source of primary research to aid my investigation!

Lots of students bunk off college and spend their assistance money on booze. That doesn't necessarily mean its the right thing to do.

Highly dubious. A internet group dedicated to such a specialised subject matter (including many industry professionals) would not be a sensible place to garner "public opinion". If anything you are likely to get squewed data, as this site will not reflect the average opinions of lay people. I cannot imagine a teacher giving you that advice.

If you want public opinion, get a clipboard, go to your local shopping precinct and ask 100 people if they would mind giving you 5 minutes of your time.

It is, if I may say, the lazy option; and it gets a little tiresome for those of us who log on to see *another* new member asking us a series of questions.

I should probably say that the level of venom in my replies is disproportionate to your actual annoyance, but as you are one of a long line of students who do this here then you're getting my cumulative frustration all in one go.

I am involved with teaching in colleges and schools and I would like to inform you all as part of college courses we advise students to use a variety of resources for primary research including street questionnaires and using forums (as it is a modern type of communication).

You are all sending this girl abuse, but if you think it is pointless then I find it quite hard to understand why you would even bother answering. it is not a lazy way of doing homework, and also someone said to do street questionnaires, but I think most people know people do not like being pestered in the street, and this way only people who want to respond can.

You all are giving teenagers abuse, yet your the ones being offensive and stereotypical. Just because someone goes to college why do you think you have the right to say they are lazy, bunk off and use drugs!

You say Amy is lazy, yet you all appear to be sat at home giving unconstructive criticisms, and thinking you are superior by insulting a teenager. She is doing her work, and it does not matter what way she does it. I think you would be complaining more if she had just made up all the information.
